Younger Man at Work (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 13
Eun Seo realized just how powerful words could truly be.
When she called him “Seung Joo-ya” and spoke informally, she genuinely started to feel as if he were her younger brother—something she never thought possible, not in a million years.
Of course, he was actually six years older than her and, to top it off, the very person who paid her salary. Every time she called out, “Seung Joo-ya, Seung Joo-ya,” she felt so guilty that Eun Seo quickly decided to eliminate any future trouble preemptively.
“I, Kwon Seung Joo,”
“I, Kwon Seung Joo…”
As Eun Seo prompted him, Seung Joo obediently wrote it down on a blank sheet of paper.
“Hereby swear that I will never hold Yun Eun Seo accountable for any words or actions directed toward me during the period of my memory loss.”
“During the period of my memory loss… will not hold accountable…”
Seung Joo, who had been copying along, suddenly stopped writing and let out a sigh.
“Do we really have to go this far?”
“I don’t know when your memory will come back, so I’ve got to secure my own safety net, don’t I?”
Eun Seo replied, puffing out her chest proudly.
Regardless of what was happening inside his head, he was still a full-grown man—and, more than that, the very man she secretly harbored feelings for. There was no way she could keep treating him like a respectable adult, constantly calling him “President,” while living under the same roof.
To live together, she had to treat him not as the original Kwon Seung Joo but as someone entirely different—a pitiful, helpless little lamb with nowhere else to go. The real problem, however, lay in what would happen afterward.
If the real Kwon Seung Joo ever found out that some lowly junior employee had been casually using informal speech and calling him by his first name, his temper definitely wouldn’t let it slide.
“What if later on, he fires me from the company for acting so presumptuously toward him? That’s why I need insurance in advance.”
“Surely not—he wouldn’t say anything after you hid me and took care of me, right?”
Eun Seo replied with a wide, beaming smile on her face.
“He wouldn’t do that, our president.”
Despair flickered across Seung Joo’s handsome face.
“Am I really that terrible of a person…?”
“Well, let’s just say I’m not about to repeat it.”
When she waved her hand dismissively, he cautiously asked, seemingly afraid.
“What exactly did I do to you?”
“If you hear it, you’ll want to die.”
In the end, Seung Joo finished writing the written pledge with a dejected expression.
“Now, write your resident registration number. And below that, the date and your name—there you go.”
Only after making him press his fingerprint at the very bottom did she finally feel somewhat relieved. With this, he wouldn’t be able to go back on his word later!
As Eun Seo carefully folded and tucked away the pledge, Seung Joo asked her anew.
“But Eun Seo, what about work today?”
“I was already late, so I just took a day off saying I was sick—had to run around looking for someone who ran away.”
“I’m sorry…”
Seeing his broad shoulders slump again in dejection made her laugh. He actually had a strangely cute side to him.
Eun Seo stood up and said,
“Let’s go to the market. We’ll buy some side dishes and get you some clothes.”
“Clothes?”
“You’ve been wearing the same outfit for a whole week.”
Seung Joo’s face flushed as he was called out. He lifted his already short sleeves toward his face to sniff them and asked,
“I did wash and change into this every day while you weren’t around… Does it smell?”
He only had this one set of clothes—if he washed them, then what was he wearing while they dried…? Eun Seo nearly imagined something wildly inappropriate before hastily shaking her head.
Don’t even think about it—he’s only eighteen!
“Anyway, hurry up and come out.”
And so, Eun Seo led Seung Joo out of the house.
Although there were several supermarkets nearby, she deliberately headed for the traditional market that required quite a walk. It was an old local market that had existed long before the neighborhood had been developed. Normally, in an effort to save on daily expenses, she preferred using this market even if it was farther away.
“Let’s go together, Eun Seo.”
Kwon Seung Joo clung to her side the entire way like a small child grabbing onto his mother’s skirt. She considered telling him to back off a bit since it felt burdensome, but held back—everything around him had changed overnight, and she couldn’t help but imagine how unsettling that must feel.
Passersby kept glancing curiously at Seung Joo, their eyes suggesting, “He looks perfectly normal—could his head be a little off?”
Despite the chilly weather, he wore no coat—just a thin sweater—and his pants were so short they barely reached above his ankles.
The clothes’ original owner, his secretary, appeared to be around 170 cm tall. Kwon Seung Joo, however, stood nearly 190 cm. It wasn’t just his height—his entire build was different. With broad shoulders and a wide chest, everything he wore—top or bottom—clung tightly to his frame, clearly outlining his muscles.
Clearly, buying clothes was far more urgent than side dishes. As soon as they reached the market, Eun Seo immediately took him to the first clothing store she spotted.

“You’ve probably only worn department store clothes until now. Sorry, but I can’t afford that. Just bear with this.”
After giving him that heads-up, she began picking out clothes. Given how well-built he was, she worried even the largest size might not fit.
“Boss, can I try this on?”
“Go behind the curtain over there to change.”
Obediently taking the clothes Eun Seo had chosen, Seung Joo disappeared into the back of the store and soon emerged in his new outfit. The shopkeeper’s eyes widened in amazement.
“Goodness! It looks just like designer wear—so handsome! How’d you end up with a husband this good-looking?”
“He’s not my husband!”
Eun Seo flushed red and quickly denied it.
Still, what the shopkeeper said was true. With his tall, solid build and striking face, he looked as if anything he wore had been tailor-made for him.
After trying on and testing out various items for a while, she ended up buying the following: two comfortable tracksuits, three T-shirts, one pair of jeans and one pair of cotton pants, a thick jacket for the coming cold weather, and a pair of sneakers. Even though she picked the cheapest options available, the total still added up to a considerable amount.
“178,000 won.”
Her hand trembled slightly as she handed over her card. Eun Seo’s financial situation was utterly dire. After Eun Ho went missing, her mother had quit her job to search for him. The modest alimony from her parents’ divorce had run out in less than a year, and ever since then, they’d been drowning in debt.
By the time her mother passed away, she was already buried under mountains of debt. Back then, Eun Seo had only been in middle school and hadn’t known that debts could be inherited. By the time she realized, the deadline to formally reject the inheritance had long passed—leaving all the debt squarely on her shoulders.
Even after starting to repay it as soon as she turned twenty, she still hadn’t managed to clear even half of it. Most of her monthly salary went straight toward debt payments, leaving her with barely enough for basic living expenses.
“Ah, forget it! Because your husband’s so handsome, I’ll just charge you 170,000 won.”
“Thank you, but he really isn’t my husband!”
As a bonus, the shopkeeper even threw in three plain white T-shirts and a pack of socks, saying they were leftover stock and would be comfortable to wear at home.
Though they now had all the essentials, Seung Joo kept glancing longingly toward a certain spot—where men’s underwear was displayed.
Only then did Eun Seo realize—he probably had only the pair he was currently wearing. She’d picked out his outer clothes, but hadn’t dared to choose underwear for him.
“Pick whatever you like.”
She said it and deliberately turned her eyes away out of embarrassment—only to hear the shopkeeper exclaim in disbelief.
“Oh dear! How’s he supposed to fit into that? His thighs won’t even squeeze in!”
“No, I usually wear this size…”
Eun Seo glanced sideways just in time to see the shopkeeper challenging Seung Joo over the underwear he’d picked out.
Even someone like Eun Seo, who’d never seen men’s underwear before, could tell that the pair he chose was ridiculously small. Apparently, he still hadn’t fully grasped his own body size.
Unable to watch any longer, Eun Seo grabbed the box containing the largest size available and handed it to the shopkeeper, keeping her eyes firmly averted.
“T-this one, please.”
The shopkeeper giggled as she took it.
“Of course—you’d know your husband’s size best, dear.”
“I keep telling you, he’s not my husband!”
The shopkeeper’s shameless teasing made Eun Seo so frustrated she nearly cried. I’ve never even held a guy’s hand before!
“Oh, why so shy? You’ll probably have a baby soon anyway!”
After quickly paying for the underwear and practically fleeing the store, Seung Joo immediately followed her out.
“I’ll wear them well, Eun Seo.”
Dressed head to toe in brand-new clothes, Seung Joo looked down at himself happily.
Even though the clothes were cheap, the newly dressed man now drew attention for an entirely different reason. Simply wearing a plain white T-shirt, jeans, and an ordinary black jacket, he looked as if he’d stepped straight out of a casual fashion photoshoot. Naturally, all eyes in the market turned toward him.
“Hey, handsome oppa! Come over here—I’ll give you a good deal!”
Market ajummas called out to him from every direction, beckoning with waves. It seemed their goal wasn’t sales but simply getting a closer look, as they crowded around him without actually trying to sell anything.
“Goodness, how can someone look like that?”
“Are you a celebrity?”
Ajummas abandoned their own stalls to gather around, mouths agape in awe as they stared at his face, while Seung Joo simply kept his eyes lowered demurely.
“You’ll never go hungry, dear—just staring at your husband’s face all day would fill your stomach!”
Exhausted from constantly denying it, Eun Seo silently swallowed her tears.
“Just give me 1,000 won worth of bean sprouts.”
“Who’s that 1,000 won for? Your husband could eat it all in one sitting!”
Despite scolding her, the vegetable vendor filled the biggest bag until it nearly burst—far more than the usual 1,000 won portion Eun Seo normally bought.
The same thing happened at the butcher’s and the fish shop. Each vendor seemed desperate to outdo the others in generosity. The butcher’s ajumma stacked meat upon meat on the scale, ignoring her husband’s protests, and when Eun Seo bought a pair of mackerel at the fish shop, she received a huge Spanish mackerel as a bonus.
“Thank you.”
When Seung Joo bowed politely in gratitude, the ajummas practically melted with delight.
Eun Seo was just beginning to appreciate the perks of having him along when the fish-shop ajumma delivered the final blow.

“I gave that to your husband so he can eat plenty. So you take just a little and give the rest to him, okay?”
Why did they have to be so blatantly biased? Irritated, Eun Seo paid and immediately turned away.
“I’m going home.”
Seung Joo hurried after her, carrying the plastic bags, and said,
“Eun Seo, you eat a lot. I don’t need much.”
“Just forget it—she said you should eat it.”
Despite holding heavy bags full of radishes, potatoes, onions, and other hefty items in both hands, Seung Joo even snatched the bean sprout bag from Eun Seo.
“I’ll carry it.”
Still, her annoyance wasn’t so easily soothed.
Eun Seo rarely ate proper meals, so whenever she went to the market, she usually came back with just bean sprouts or tofu at most. She hardly ever bought meat or fish—today’s abundant shopping was all thanks to Seung Joo.
“You must’ve had such an easy life. How is it that everywhere you go…”
She started sarcastically but quickly bit her tongue as his circumstances came to mind. It wasn’t fair, even as an empty phrase, to call his life easy.
She suddenly remembered shouting at Kwon Seung Joo right before the accident.
“People like you have probably never known real pain in your life—never lost sleep from stress, never cried your heart out.”
“Let me give you one piece of advice: people like you shouldn’t give advice to others.”
Now she regretted it deeply. What did she really know about his life to speak to him so arrogantly? She hadn’t known anything at all…
Without thinking, Eun Seo suddenly said,
“…Sorry.”
When she glanced sideways, Seung Joo gave her a warm, crooked smile.
“Why are you sorry, Eun Seo?”
For some reason, she couldn’t meet his gaze directly and quickly looked away.
“It’s nothing.”
She wanted to apologize, but that person—the one she’d spoken to so harshly—was already gone. At that thought, a sudden chill swept through her chest.

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan likes Sister Yuner.”
Lu Yuner: “Young prince, you’re drunk.”
Su Qingwan: “Qingwan isn’t drunk. Qingwan likes Sister Yuner, likes you so much, likes you to bits…” Before he can finish, Lu Yuner’s eyes flash with emotion and she leans in closer.
