“Find our Ae Rin!”

Seung Joo listened to the middle-aged man as he got into the car, having just been picked up from his solo protest in front of Dae Won Group’s headquarters.

The man claimed his daughter had been Chairman Kwon’s lover. He said they’d even set up a separate household together, but one day his daughter suddenly vanished without a trace.

He pulled out his phone with his bright red, frozen hands and showed Seung Joo a short message on the screen.

– I’m really sorry, oppa. I’ve fallen for someone else. The pregnancy was a lie. Please don’t look for me.

“The police showed me the letter our Ae Rin supposedly wrote to your father, and it’s definitely her handwriting. But there’s no way she’d disappear on her own. My wife is seriously ill—Ae Rin would never do something like that.”

It seemed that Ae Rin, though a mistress, had been a genuinely kind daughter to her parents. He claimed they only learned about her relationship with Chairman Kwon after she went missing, from the police. He insisted his daughter had started seeing Chairman Kwon solely out of desperation to cover her mother’s expensive cancer treatments.

“How precious was my daughter to me—do you think I’d ever willingly let her become a mistress? She must have sacrificed herself to save her mother. Now I realize where all that money she kept sending really came from…”

His tearful expression was genuinely pitiful. After all, regardless of being a mistress or not, she was still a beloved daughter to her parents.

The man wiped his tears and spoke again.

“Think about it—didn’t your own mother also go missing? Whose doing do you think that was?”

Seung Joo flinched.

“One might be coincidence, but not two. Every time someone gets involved with your father, they vanish without a trace. Who else could possibly be behind it but that woman?”

Could it be… Had his mother’s death also been orchestrated by his stepmother? Seung Joo’s heart pounded violently in his chest.

“What’s your stepmother’s nickname again? ‘The Nation’s Second,’ right? That vicious woman who destroys other people’s families—what wouldn’t she do?”
