One week had passed since Eunseo started her part-time job after work. Lacking sleep, she was barely conscious at her office. Feeling embarrassed in front of her team, she tried her best to stay alert.

“What are you doing, making poison?” Suna exclaimed, seeing Eunseo repeatedly extracting shots from the coffee machine. Eunseo didn’t dilute her espresso with water but just mixed it with sugar and downed it in one go, which shocked Suna even more.

“Are you crazy?”

“Jeez, how provincial,” Eunseo joked after gulping down three shots of espresso in three sips. “Italians usually drink it this way. They get horrified at the sight of water mixed with coffee.”

Eunseo didn’t want to worry Suna with the truth. She knew Suna would be upset and insist on lending her the money to quit the job immediately.

Borrowing from someone always ended in owing them back. Eunseo had learned the hard lesson not to become dependent or beg others, thanks to her mother who left her with nothing but debts.

“But why do you look so unwell? Are you sick?”

Suna was quick to notice.

“Just tired. Don’t worry, I’ll rest over the weekend.”

Eunseo only had to work until Friday to earn the necessary money. Then, she could rest over the weekend and be fresh for work on Monday.

“I’ll buy you something tasty over the weekend,” Suna offered.

Eunseo resolved to endure until Friday.

“You’ve worked hard, Eunseo.”

“Thank you.”

It was 1 AM when she finally finished her shift at the kimchi factory. As she collected her day’s wages and left the factory, she saw a large shadow under a street lamp, which called out to her.

“Eunseo!”

Startled, Eunseo turned to find Seungju waiting for her. The nearby ajummas quickly showed curiosity.

“Who’s that?”

“Did Eunseo get a boyfriend?”

“No, he’s just a younger acquaintance,” Eunseo hastily replied, grateful for the darkness and Seungju’s cap hiding his face. If his face had been visible, it would have caused a commotion just like at the market.

“Why are you here? What if someone recognizes you?”

Rushing to him and grabbing his arm, Eunseo scolded him, but Seungju nonchalantly replied, “How would the neighborhood ajummas recognize me? They’d only know Lee Jae-yong.”

Eunseo tried to laugh, but it was hard with her face frozen from the factory’s low temperatures. Her face wasn’t the only thing frozen; her leg muscles had stiffened from standing all day, causing her to stumble suddenly.

“Eunseo!”

Seungju caught her arm in alarm.

“Sorry, I just tripped over my foot.”

She tried to smile it off, but after a few steps, she staggered again. Seungju sighed and turned his back towards her.

“Get on.”

“I can walk.”

“If you don’t get on, I’ll carry you.”

Reluctantly, Eunseo ended up being carried by Seungju.

“I’m sorry, Eunseo. You’re struggling because of me, and I can’t help at all…”

As Seungju walked slowly, Eunseo protested, “Why is it because of you? You didn’t make the roof collapse.”

“But I’m the landlord, I should be the one fixing it. And here I am, unable to do anything…”

His voice was filled with sadness. Eunseo sighed, realizing he had been thinking about it all along.

“You know, I’m happy living with you.”

Taking advantage of his inability to see her face, Eunseo opened up.

“Before living with you, I didn’t realize how lonely I was. It’s so nice to have someone waiting for me at home.”

“…”

“Look at now. Who else would carry me like this when I’m tired? Even my mom never carried me.”

His broad and warm back felt comforting.

“What about your father?”

“He never carried me either. He was busy cheating on my mom with other women, which eventually led to their divorce. That’s how my mom, my brother, and I ended up living together.”

A deep sigh echoed.

“We have a lot in common, Eunseo.”

“Yeah, we do.”
Eunseo reminisced about the first time she saw Seungju before he lost his memory. It was two years ago, when he suddenly entered her house and just sat there. From the beginning, she felt they shared a similar aura. Now, it seemed true.

The irony and humor in having much in common with the heir of Daewon Group made her chuckle.

“We could have at least shared some good traits.”

Seungju walked slowly and cautiously, making sure not to discomfort Eunseo, who was on his back.

Their home was about a ten-minute walk away. Not too far, but carrying someone made it a different story.

“I can get down now… aren’t you tired?”

“I can barely feel you’re there.”

This called for a forced laugh. Chuckling, Eunseo rested her cheek on Seungju’s back. The comfort and warmth, coupled with the gentle rocking, made her sleepy.

“Did you know? Babies fall asleep quickly when they’re held or hugged, even if they were crying.”

Eunseo knew this because she often carried and hugged her brother Eunho, who was six years younger than her.

“I think I understand why…”

Seungju seemed to catch on to her hint of being sleepy and responded accordingly.

“You can sleep if you’re tired.”

Male lead is a Love-Obsessed Merman

When he discovers she has gone, he risks everything to pursue her on land, enduring agonizing pain to transform his tail into human legs…

One-line summary: Male lead chases female lead. The male lead’s love is a bit sick, an invincible love brain.

Synopsis

During a voyage at sea, Jiang Yang accidentally captures a merman.

Servant: I heard that mermen are fierce and brutal.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman obediently rubbing her palm like a puppy: “You call this fierce and brutal?”

Servant: I heard that mermen have no human nature.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman with wet puppy eyes, obsessively calling her ‘A Yang’ like a childish infant: “You call this having no human nature?”

With great difficulty, she releases the merman back into the sea and returns to shore.

Who would have thought that in less than half a month, the merman, who should have been freely wandering in the South China Sea, would shed his scales, endure the pain of losing his tail, transform into human legs, and come ashore to find her?

He kneels at her feet, rubbing her palm, with merman tears rolling down: “A Yang, don’t abandon me.”
