[The pillars supporting the roof are old and could collapse at any time…]

Eunseo realized that wasn’t a lie.

“What if we just repair the eaves for now?”

“It might cost about a million won.”

He knew Eunseo’s situation well. He wouldn’t overcharge. Probably just the cost of materials with minimal labor.

After he left, Eunseo sighed deeply.

“I’m sorry. I’m the owner, so I should be the one fixing it…”

Seungju looked awkwardly apologetic.

“It’s okay. I would have fixed it myself without telling you. I’ve always lived like that.”

True. With barely any deposit money, she never dared to bother the landlord about repairs, fearing she might be told to leave.

“Let’s see, a million won…”

Eunseo did some quick calculations.

Her life had always been tight, leaving just enough for basic living expenses and using the rest to pay off debts. Flyers and banners also cost a fair amount. Now, with Seungju there, expenses had increased.

Seungju’s presence meant buying fish and meat she never used to eat. It wasn’t just adding a spoon to her usual meals.

It looked like she had no choice but to take a part-time job after work. The company prohibited it, but she had no other option. She couldn’t live with a collapsed roof.
Eunseo inevitably had to take up a part-time job after work. It was against company policy, but she had no choice; she couldn’t live with a collapsed eaves.

Fortunately, the part-time job was close by, at a kimchi factory where she had worked since college. It started as a small family business and grew into a proper factory through word of mouth, always short on hands.

Eunseo had worked there when it was smaller, and the owner liked her a lot, always saying she could come back anytime she needed money. Last year, she even worked there for two weeks after work to pay for a gate replacement.

Seungju immediately objected.

“That’s absurd. How can you do a part-time job on top of your regular job?”

“What else can I do? It’s in that state, I have to fix it.”

“I’ll work instead. I have an adult body, I can work. Maybe at a construction site carrying cement.”

“You’ll make the nine o’clock news if the site manager recognizes you,” Eunseo laughed, imagining the head of Daewon Construction carrying cement. It was a comical thought, but Seungju was serious.

“Then how about a convenience store? They wouldn’t recognize me if it’s not construction.”

Beyond being recognized, Eunseo had no intention of making Seungju work. He hadn’t fully adapted to the present world and hesitated to go out alone.

“Just focus on studying and returning to the company. That’s how you can help.”

“But…!”

“It won’t be long, just about ten days, so don’t worry.”

After assuring Seungju, Eunseo firmly stated, “No getting disciplined for working two jobs, okay?”

2 A.M.

Even though Seungju was reviewing materials at home, his mind was only on Eunseo.

“Wondering why she hasn’t returned, he couldn’t take it anymore and went outside. There, on the porch, Eunseo lay collapsed.

“Eunseo?”

Startled and heart racing, he called out. Fortunately, she was just asleep. Approaching, he heard her steady breathing. It seemed she collapsed on the porch, exhausted, without even taking off her shoes.

For a week, Eunseo had been returning after 1 or even 2 A.M., then waking up early for work.

Yet, she never mentioned being tired to Seungju, instead worrying about him being alone all day.

“Did you eat well? Must have been lonely all day, right?”

Seungju carefully removed the shoes protruding from the porch. They were repaired, but visibly worn. The thin soles pained his heart.

‘I got new shoes while she’s wearing these.’

He grew increasingly resentful of himself. Useless, only eating and taking up space. An adult without a penny.

Of course, he had money but didn’t know which bank or the account details, nor had any ID or password.

“If I could just remember, I’d fix the roof, buy new shoes, and more…”

He wanted to do so much, but could do nothing.

Gazing at the sleeping Eunseo, he gently picked her up. She was light as paper, painfully so. The thought of her frail shoulders carrying his burden was unbearable.

‘I’m short because I didn’t eat enough.’

He recalled her saying that with an unaffected smile. It hurt just thinking about it.

Her story gave him a glimpse into her life. Growing up in a household focused only on finding a lost child, always cautious, living quietly under the shadow of a preoccupied mother.

Did she ever go out with her parents, wear pretty clothes? Probably always watching her mother, solely fixated on finding her lost child.
Seungju was born the only son of a wealthy family, enjoying all the luxuries of life. At least until his parents separated, he lived a life without any wants.

And yet, this woman, who had nothing, was fiercely protecting him. He, who should have been the one to protect her.

Eunseo was so exhausted that she didn’t even wake up as he carried and laid her down. She slept soundly, oblivious to the world.

After gently placing her on the bed, he left the room. Instead of going back to his room, he sat down leaning against Eunseo’s door, buried his face in his knees, and prayed fervently.

He hoped the night would pass slowly, allowing Eunseo to rest a little more.

Yet, he still hadn’t fully realized what this emotion was.

Male lead is a clingy little husband

One-line summary: The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

Introduction:

One day, Lu Yuner’s soul transmigrates into a female-dominant world. She enters the Imperial Academy and takes up the position of a doctoral instructor, teaching classes and grading schoolwork.

One day, she encounters the young prince Su Qingwan secretly skipping class from the male academy.

As a result, Su Qingwan is punished.

From then on, Su Qingwan sees Lu Yuner as a “thorn in his side”.

But before long, this “thorn” becomes the person he cherishes most, and he goes to great lengths to win Lu Yuner’s affection.

Mini scene 1:

One day, the sun is high in the sky but Su Qingwan still hasn’t gotten up for class.

Servant Xiaoyuan: “Young prince, it’s time for class. You’ll be late otherwise.”

Su Qingwan says arrogantly: “I’m not going. I am the esteemed prince, my status is so noble, why should I suffer this hardship? Besides, isn’t learning all this just to please women? Hmph, they’re not worthy!”

Mini scene 2:

After Su Qingwan falls for someone, he completely changes. He no longer skips class and diligently learns how to be a good husband and father. But he discovers that Sister Yuner is always surrounded by admirers.

Drunk and overcome with jealousy one day, he clings to Lu Yuner, crying beautifully like a pear blossom in the rain.

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan likes Sister Yuner.”

Lu Yuner: “Young prince, you’re drunk.”

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan isn’t drunk. Qingwan likes Sister Yuner, likes you so much, likes you to bits…” Before he can finish, Lu Yuner’s eyes flash with emotion and she leans in closer.

[Reading Guide]

1. The female lead is gentle, gracious, humble and polite but not weak. The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

2. 1v1, a bit torturous in the beginning but definitely sweet later on.
