Everyone’s eyes turned toward Esila at the sound of her voice. The attackers did the same.

‘Why!’

Though he had hoped it was merely an illusion, standing shakily before the entrance was unmistakably his daughter.

Calon immediately rushed to Esila and pulled her into his arms. A metallic scent of blood reached his nose. At the same time, his hands, which had grasped her, felt something warm and sticky.

It was the sensation of blood.

The moment Calon realized Esila was bleeding, his mind went blank, and he felt as if the ground beneath him had collapsed.

All he felt then was endless fear and rage.

At Esila—how dare they lay a hand on my daughter.

Calon held Esila tightly against his chest so she could see nothing, then moved his body.

In a single swift turn, two men collapsed onto the floor. In his arms, Calon could feel Esila trembling violently, unable even to scream.

He kicked away the fallen intruders and checked on Esila in his embrace.

Her hands were covered in quite a bit of blood. Yet despite the amount, Esila showed no sign of pain.

“Where are you hurt?”

It was an unexpectedly gentle voice, out of place amid a battlefield of life and death.

Esila struggled to move her lips before speaking weakly.
