Recently, Calon had been visiting Ael every night before going to sleep.

Jena, who was always by Ael’s side, knew very well that this hour was hardly an appropriate time to visit someone.

Whenever Calon arrived, Jena would quietly slip out of the room, claiming she’d suddenly remembered something urgent.

Yet she deliberately made loud footsteps as she left, as if to remind them she was still standing right outside the door.

Calon had to suppress a laugh each time, reading clearly in her actions the unspoken warning: he could stay, but if he dared go any further, she wouldn’t stand for it.

Jena’s fleeting glance back at him just before leaving—her eyes seeming to say, “Don’t you dare do anything foolish!”—somehow reminded him of a loyal dog fiercely guarding its master.

“Unnecessary worry.”

Just because Jena left didn’t mean he’d suddenly change his behavior. In truth, it was more accurate to say he had no reason to.

If he truly set his mind on doing something, what could a mere young maid possibly do to stop him?

Anyway, once Jena left, Ael always wore a slightly tense expression. Yet every time she saw him, she’d brighten with a warm smile, and that look of genuine happiness made Calon feel a strange, ticklish sensation in his palms.

In truth, what he did when visiting her at night wasn’t anything extraordinary.

He’d been so busy lately that their time together had dwindled. Not only could they no longer share meals, but on especially hectic days, even briefly seeing each other became difficult.

There were times when Calon managed to carve out a moment during the day to visit Ael, only to find she’d gone elsewhere.

He’d considered searching for her, but the Altvea mansion wasn’t a place one could quickly tour.
