One maid mimicked Elise’s voice in a comical tone, giggling, and the others burst into laughter with her.

With every word the maid spoke, Maya had to swallow back a scream threatening to burst out.

After spending an entire season enjoying their company, he’d send them off—almost as if selling them—to his vassals who still hadn’t found suitable wives.

To make this easier, he deliberately chose only women from powerless families—foolish girls blinded by dreams of becoming Grand Duchess, who’d eagerly accept his suspicious invitations without hesitation.

Only after the maids finished their gossip and returned to their rooms did Maya crawl out of the kitchen and rush straight to Elise.
