The moment he arrived in Altvea, Calon leapt out of the carriage as if jumping down. Without even acknowledging the butler and Head Maid who had come to greet him, he immediately headed toward the house on the hill.

Though not many people came and went, the path leading there was neatly maintained. Even so, the narrow, shadowed road looked eerie even in broad daylight.

The road Ael had walked alone once a week, coming and going by herself.

Calon had never witnessed her doing so.

Before he ever arrived, Ael had to come here first, wait for him, spend the night, and then leave early the next morning to return to the capital.

After passing through the narrow path and emerging from the short stretch of woods, an endless horizon appeared before him, bathed in bright light. There stood the house where Ael had stayed.

Turning the doorknob, the door opened with a dull creak.

Inside, everything was arranged as if someone had just been there moments before.

The Head Maid, who had chased after him belatedly, caught her breath and spoke between gasps.

“After Madam left for the trading company, Jena kept maintaining it. Once Jena also left, we’ve been cleaning the place every other day.”

She added that they’d kept everything exactly as it had last been arranged, moving or removing nothing.

“I’ll wait outside. Please let me know if you need anything.”

Noticing Calon staring blankly into the house, the Head Maid quickly excused herself.

Thud.

Long after the door closed, Calon finally moved.
