Calon, startled by Ael’s words, cried out in panic and hastily shut his mouth.

Hadn’t he worked so hard all this time precisely to make others believe that?

So it was only natural that Ael herself would think the same way.

Seeing even the person involved believed he wanted to drive her away made him realize he’d done his job well—but looking at Ael’s expression made it hard to breathe.

But Ael’s mind was filled only with the image of him from moments ago—coldly, frighteningly shoving Aksana away while mentioning the Empress, a side of him she’d never seen before.

If that was his true self, then everything he’d shown her until now must have been a lie.
