If I go to the empire after leaving Denerium by ship, I’ll pay the rest of the promised compensation to the fake husband and get a job at the Ash Trading Company.
Then continue to work there and live…
The future was overwhelming even to imagine. But this was nothing more than imagination.
The man who would take the money I gave to deceive my parents, leave Denerthum with me, and go all the way to the Empire.
‘Where could I find someone willing to do that?’
Would anyone willing to engage in a fake marriage for money be a trustworthy person?
Those kinds of people were likely to take the money and run away.
It would perhaps be a relief if they simply took the money and ran at that point.
The real problem would start after signing the marriage documents and leaving Jajakga.
Once the documents were signed, the role of the guardian would be transferred to the husband.
‘If he’s the husband, he could demand that I comply with his wishes…’
I would have to comply with whatever he asked for until we reached the Empire. And it would perhaps be fortunate if we made it to the Empire.
In the worst case, we might end up in the countryside of Denerthum instead of the Empire. And there, I could be handed over to another ‘guardian.’
The thought alone sent chills down my spine.
‘So if I go through with it, I need to find someone I can trust.’
Ael thought of the people I knew.
But they were people I could count on one hand. And among them, the most trustworthy person was…
Ael bowed her head deeply. The wound remaining on her forehead once again became hot.
Calon had been sitting in my office for the first time in a while.
Although it was a small office near Nisha’s, rather than the top-floor room where I stayed, it wasn’t much of an inconvenience.
After all, he had spent much time in other people’s rooms.
At first, he mostly spent time in Nisha’s office.
Being the boss’s office, it was spacious, and he had a desk that was conducive to work. Also, its walls were thicker, which was convenient for confidential conversations. Furthermore, there was a safe on one wall that was good for storage.
Otherwise, he would spend time in Eino’s room, who was frequently out and about.
However, these days, he spent most of his time in Ael’s room.
He had handed over documents to Ael, and as soon as she finished deciphering them, he proceeded to review them.
He didn’t just read what she had deciphered. He immediately plunged into the study of ancient languages, because it would be beneficial for future work.
Today was slated to be another similar day.
Other than a visit to the bank with Ael to create an account for her, there was nothing extra added to the schedule.
The schedule, even if there was one, mostly consisted of clandestine activities taking place late at night. So, there wasn’t much to do during the day.
Then, suddenly, a tremendous whirlwind hit, and the entire port was turned upside down.
Calon glanced around for a moment and then sprinted up the stairs. He remembered that at this hour, Aelfrie always left her door open.
However, before he could even climb one floor, an employee who had been in the underground communication room rushed out to find him. A message had come in from the Empire.
So, Calon had no choice but to turn back from going up to Aelfrie’s room.
Communications with the Empire couldn’t last long. Missing that opportunity would have been problematic.
But then…
“That scoundrel Rasis finally made his move.”
Calon clenched his teeth, recalling the blurry face he had seen a few hours ago.
While the world may revere him as a genius, to Calon, he was nothing more than a bothersome lunatic.
Among other issues, the biggest problem with Rasis was that once he took an interest in something, he went all out.
Once, when Calon pointed this out to Rasis, Rasis responded incredulously.
〈I thought you were describing yourself.〉
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:

Fan Xia, the elegant and composed assistant, carried something mysterious in her eyes whenever she looked at her fiancé, Wen Lan Sheng. Strange occurrences began to surface – secret meetings with the young Gu Jin Yi, an unexplained withdrawal of 5,000 yuan… Then suddenly, her fiancé’s sister, Wen Jing, violently attacked her.
In this matriarchal society, Rong Xiu had risen to become the chairman of a powerful healthcare conglomerate, breaking through gender prejudices. But for the first time, he willingly stepped into the shadows as the other man, disregarding his friends’ warnings to become her secret lover.
Because he had discovered the truth – Fan Xia wasn’t the pure angel everyone believed her to be. And perhaps, he was the only one capable of helping her execute her mysterious plan…
