“Then, where is she?”

“At the Panis estate.”

Not only was it over a hundred miles from the capital, but it also had no connection whatsoever to the ducal house.

“Why there?”

“His Grace sent her. I’m not entirely sure myself……”

Oz trailed off. It wasn’t that she genuinely didn’t know—it seemed she simply couldn’t say.

And there must have been a clear reason she couldn’t speak of it. Melie didn’t want to cause her pain.

“I understand. You don’t have to tell me. I’ll ask him later….”

Again, Melie hesitated over what to call Edric, but only uncomfortable terms came to mind, so she omitted any title altogether.

“…I’ll ask him myself later.”

But what on earth could have happened? What could possibly have driven Edric to drive away his own mother?

He wasn’t exactly a model filial son, but he’d always treated his parents well enough that they wouldn’t feel slighted. Moreover, the Felton family had always held filial piety as a core virtue of their lineage. Yet he’d still cast his mother out.

Regardless of the reason, it felt far too harsh.
