Mi Joo felt uneasy under the man’s gaze, which seemed to read her all too clearly, and embarrassed that she’d shrunk back in this situation, so she tried hard to appear calm.

“I was wondering… should I call you three or four more times?”

“I’m not the obsessive type.”

“Hmm. You never know. Anything could happen from now on.”

Trying to wrap things up with a brief reply, but sensing her words sounded ambiguous, Mi Joo added another sentence unnecessarily.

“Things like this might turn into trauma the longer they linger, so I might keep calling you later, even if it’s delayed.”

Si Yoon almost chuckled at the woman’s attitude—impossible to tell if it was playful or naive—but what followed made laughter utterly inappropriate. Her voice carried genuine concern for him.

“Be careful walking at night. Wandering around places like this brings trouble. You need to take care of yourself in a foreign country.”

After delivering this final piece of advice, Mi Joo turned around without hesitation and got into her car.

Through the windshield, she saw the man wearing an openly disgruntled expression, as if deeply dissatisfied. A wave of unease washed over her—the sense that he might charge straight toward her at any moment.

“Did I say something pointless while pretending to worry?”

Though she’d done nothing wrong, Mi Joo quickly fastened her seatbelt over her pounding heart.

Although only dim streetlights illuminated the parking lot, Mi Joo’s movements inside the car were clearly visible through the completely untinted glass.

For some reason, Si Yoon’s senses felt unusually sharp today, and everything caught his attention—the subtle rise and fall of the woman’s chest as she buckled her seatbelt, the troubled look on her face.

The car wouldn’t start, and Mi Joo impatiently tapped the steering wheel.

“Ah, again!”

Of course, tapping it wouldn’t magically start the engine, but she felt the man’s eyes watching her flustered struggle as if amused, which only made her more anxious.

“Why won’t that guy just leave? Why does he keep staring?”

More than worrying about how late it was, Mi Joo grew flustered with the thought of wanting to flee somewhere he couldn’t see her.

She felt like a rabbit before a lion. This lion, already full and uninterested, seemed to lazily toy with her—a rabbit it had no intention of eating—rolling her around with its paw just for leisure.

She desperately wanted to escape the spot, yet her car refused to cooperate.

Feeling Si Yoon’s sharp gaze on her, Mi Joo steeled herself to try starting the engine once more.

“It has to start this time. If it doesn’t, he’s definitely coming over. Please, just start.”

She gathered all her focus, poured every ounce of willpower into the car key, and turned it politely and carefully.

Ha. Finally, it started.

* * *

Back at home, Si Yoon tossed his jacket carelessly onto the sofa and headed to the bathroom.

Cold water streamed relentlessly over his sharply defined muscles. After standing motionless under the showerhead for a while, Si Yoon ran a frustrated hand through his wet hair. His bangs, pushed back by the motion, slid forward again along the rivulets of water.

“Tch, ‘be careful walking at night’?”

It was advice he’d never heard in his life.

Yet that absurd, unwarranted concern somehow tickled him—though he couldn’t pinpoint exactly where or how. Maybe a shower would wash away this restless, itching feeling.

He roughly lathered soap over his body and stood under the cold spray for a while longer.

After his shower, Si Yoon sank deep into the sofa, holding a can of drink.

He’d met many women over the years—varied in nationality, though never too numerous—but none had ever captured his heart.

The wealthy ones reeked of nouveau riche arrogance; those obsessed with status turned out to be hollow shells of vanity the more he got to know them.

Women who claimed intelligence and independence still leaned on him for support. Of course, not every woman was like that—but none had ever genuinely moved him or stirred real emotion in his heart.

“Ugh. Just thinking about it is exhausting.”

Sometimes, women’s excessive interest drained him, and rejecting their affections took even more energy—so he’d concluded it was better not to date anyone at all. And indeed, it had been quite a while since he last saw a woman.

Because of this, strange rumors had begun circulating about him.

He actually preferred it that way. Misunderstandings were easier to bear than people’s relentless attempts to grab his attention.

But now, after a very long time, a woman had begun circling his thoughts again.

“That woman in the parking lot…”

Could it be because of his upcoming meeting with Chairman Kim that his eyes had lingered on the woman he’d recently encountered? If that were truly the reason, wouldn’t it have been simpler to accept the other woman’s bold kiss instead of pushing her away?

Si Yoon tried to analyze his own discomfort and glanced toward the suit jacket lying on the sofa.

If he called, he could see her again—her clear-eyed gaze, her blushing, embarrassed face.

She was someone he could easily forget, yet her bizarre advice about being careful at night kept pulling her back into his mind.

Before he realized it, his hand had already reached the jacket pocket. Through the fabric, he felt the stiff card and vividly recalled the sensation from when he’d grabbed her wrist.

As if trying to erase the thought, Si Yoon roughly rummaged through his clothes and pulled out the card. But the moment he looked at it, his brow furrowed.

—Everything Helper Service.

In Korean, it would roughly translate to “We’ll do anything for you.” Instantly, he recalled Mi Joo’s hesitant expression when handing him the card, and how she’d pulled her hand back slightly.

“So that’s why.”

His expression turned bitter.

Clearly, the card listed perfectly respectable services: grocery shopping, document handling, dog walking, babysitting, and so on.

But the title itself—and the fine print stating “everything is decided only after consultation” and “travel fees required”—left a bad taste in his mouth.

Si Yoon flipped Mi Joo’s card back and forth between his long fingers.

“Does ‘anything’ really mean anything?”

Now that he thought about it, the phrase sounded oddly familiar.

“Was it there?”

Si Yoon looked down at Mi Joo’s card once more, then gazed into the air, sifting through his memories.

“Ah.”

Finally, he remembered where he’d seen that parking lot woman before.

* * *

A few months ago, it had been a yacht social party.

Contrary to its glamorous name and scandalous rumors, it wasn’t particularly lavish or chaotic—but people who stirred up trouble always seemed to show up.

Just as Si Yoon was about to pop in, greet a few close friends, and head home, he spotted Bill, the usual troublemaker, apparently arguing with a woman.

Si Yoon tried ignoring them and walked past, but Bill’s and the woman’s sharp voices cut through clearly.

Though Si Yoon hated meddling in romantic matters, he knew from experience that Bill never took “no” for an answer and was surely pressuring the woman against her will. Their next exchange further irritated him.

“No, I don’t!”

Her words were unmistakably clear Korean.

Si Yoon turned around instantly. Burly Bill was forcing his face toward the woman, trying to kiss her, while she struggled and pushed him away.

At her firm shout, Bill lifted his head—but didn’t release her. She wriggled helplessly within his grip.

At Si Yoon’s icy command, Bill glared at the woman briefly before shoving her away. She stumbled backward, nearly falling.

Before her frail body hit the ground, Si Yoon strode over and caught her protectively.

Worried that meeting a fellow Korean in this uncomfortable situation might embarrass her further, Si Yoon deliberately spoke in English.

The woman kept her head bowed, hiding her face behind her falling hair, fighting back frustrated tears. Her body trembled uncontrollably despite her efforts. Si Yoon gently patted her shoulder.

What did such a small word—“safe”—mean, really? Yet at his reassurance, she finally burst into tears, her emotions overwhelming her for a moment.

He wanted to comfort her further, but as a stranger passing by, all he could do was keep her from collapsing and pat her back awkwardly.

For a brief moment, she seemed to steady herself in his arms—then, leaving only a faint “thank you,” she slipped away and ran off.

Watching her go, Bill sneered.

At Bill’s remark, Si Yoon fixed him with a fearsome glare. Intimidated, Bill quickly offered excuses.

Si Yoon stepped toward Bill. For a split second, he considered stepping in for the woman—but then checked himself. Since when had he become so meddlesome?

Still, Bill, already terrified, shuffled backward hastily and fled the scene.

On the floor lay a crumpled business card: Everything Helper Service.

Si Yoon tried not to think about it, but he was slightly unsettled.

“Was it really just a woman’s cunning trick to raise her price?”

Yet her trembling body and suppressed anger had clearly shown she was rejecting Bill.

* * *

Leaving the social gathering with a strange unease, Si Yoon got into his car.

Pitter-patter.

Fat raindrops began splattering against the windshield. The gloomy sky pouring rain felt just like his mood.

He turned on the wipers and pulled out of the parking lot. He hadn’t gone far when he spotted the same woman walking ahead.

“The woman who said she’d do anything… yet ran off crying without taking any money.”

Si Yoon drove past her and stopped a few meters ahead, then watched her through the side mirror.

She walked slowly, drenched fully by the downpour, repeatedly wiping her face—whether to clear the rain or the tears still streaming from her eyes, he couldn’t tell. It even stirred a hint of pity in him.

“Is it just because we’re both Korean that I feel this way?”

As she drew closer to his car, Si Yoon realized something.

She wasn’t wiping her tears—she was rubbing her lips.
