Outside the car window, the sky was turning orange, signaling the beginning of sunset.
Siyun, with his hair neatly combed and wearing an impeccable white shirt, held the steering wheel with an indifferent expression. A casually removed jacket and bowtie lay on the passenger seat, and next to them, a cell phone was silently vibrating, indicating incoming messages.
Glancing at the phone set aside, Siyun refocused on driving. If the traffic wasn’t bad, he would arrive just in time for the dinner banquet.
He didn’t want to attend social gatherings like tonight’s party, but with his impending return home, Siyun felt he should at least bid farewell to his acquaintances.
As the car stopped at a traffic light, the phone vibrated again. Siyun picked it up and checked the messages, his gaze fixating on the last one.
Siyun lightly touched the phone to open the news link, then set it back on the passenger seat and resumed driving.
The reporter focused on the inheritance fight of a private academic dynasty, and Siyun chuckled at the report, but soon regained his composed expression.
It seemed ridiculous to him that his legal action to prevent his uncle from selling his father’s works cheaply was perceived by others as a greedy inheritance dispute.
The lawsuit was a personal action by Siyun, unrelated to the foundation, so there couldn’t be an official position.
After the reporter finished reciting Siyun’s background, the car fell silent, and he wore an indifferent expression as if it were someone else’s story.

In the brief pause at the traffic light, he skillfully tied his bowtie and straightened his outfit without even looking in the mirror.
The last day of the open house event at the Canadian Embassy Residence in Jumi.
Due to it being the last day, people of various nationalities filled the banquet hall.
Among them, Miju was working part-time as a server. She saw other Asians around, but most were embassy-related personnel or VIP guests, so Miju felt at ease.
‘No chance of meeting someone I know, and no one is causing a scene. I wish all my part-time jobs were like this.’
Miju checked the time. The cocktail party would end in 30 minutes, and the main dinner would soon begin, signaling the end of her shift. But her day’s work wasn’t over yet; she had to move on to another part-time job.
‘It’s tiring, but having the opportunity to work is a blessing.’
However, she noticed a man she hadn’t seen all day in the banquet hall. He stood out with his tall stature, even among the average height of 180 cm foreigners, and his black hair.
‘Was there a man with such dark hair among the foreigners?’
His suit fit perfectly on his long limbs, and his broad shoulders caught Miju’s eye.
Following the straight and proud line of his back, the tight muscles covered by the jacket vent were palpable. Miju chuckled to herself internally.

‘Here I am, thinking all sorts of things about the back of a man whose face I don’t even know.’
Yet, she couldn’t deny her curiosity about the front view of the black-haired man with an exceptional physique.
‘Is he Asian? Maybe Korean?’
Pushing her curiosity aside, Miju noticed an elderly lady signaling for a cocktail and started heading towards her.
The ambassador’s young son, sharing the same name as Siyun, eagerly grabbed Siyun’s hand, showing familiarity.
Cheered by Siyun’s words, the boy bustled about and accidentally bumped into an elderly lady.
“Oh my.”
As a result, Miju, holding a tray to serve the lady a cocktail, was slightly pushed but fortunately maintained her balance.
However, the lady staggered, and Siyun quickly caught her waist, preventing an accident.
Though it was a situation that could anger and embarrass her, the lady felt relieved and grateful for the polite man’s help.

The man helped the lady stand straight and took the cocktail glass from her hand.
The woman showed a beaming smile at the man’s words.
Miju, who hadn’t done anything wrong but felt guilty for just being there, saw the ambassador looking at her with a cold gaze.
But as the ambassador heard the laughter of the elderly lady and Siyun, he soon withdrew his gaze from Miju and smiled.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
