‘Now, let’s really go have lunch…’
Just then, the bell rang.
It signaled the end of lunchtime.
‘…I missed lunch…’
I watched the retreating backs of the fan club members and shed metaphorical tears.
Back in class.
I sat down, pretending not to notice the pouring stares.
But.
‘Huh?’
Surprisingly, despite the fan club’s declaration of war, nothing much happened.
‘Why is it so quiet?’
The classmates still glanced at me occasionally, but they didn’t openly confront me like the fan club.
‘This is… manageable?’
I had braced myself for typical bullying tactics like dropping chalkboard erasers, splashing water in the bathroom, writing insults on my desk, and so on.
The unexpectedly mild reaction from the students was slightly surprising.
‘Well, that’s good for me, I guess.’
Though I lost some friends.
I glanced around.
The kids I used to chat with and have lunch with were now just watching me from afar.
‘Is this… the fate of being popular?’
Obviously not.
Anyway, being a real high school student, this would have hurt, but I am a transmigrator. This was nothing to me.
‘They’ll get tired of it eventually, I guess.’
I thought lightly of it and let it pass.
The afternoon passed relatively peacefully.
I went to the snack bar during break and filled my stomach. Missing lunch was regrettable, but I consoled myself knowing today’s menu wasn’t that great.
Time passed, and it was finally the last period of the day.
The subject was physical education.
I changed into my gym clothes and headed to the sports field.
“Today’s class is volleyball,” said the gym teacher.
“Form pairs.”
Huh?
Why pairs at a time like this?
I looked around at my classmates. They desperately tried to avoid my gaze.
Danbal… You won’t leave me, right?
Remember our bond from the day we first saw the top three boys together. Well, I didn’t cheer, but still…
But Danbal was the most eager to avoid my eyes.
“Sigh.”
I let out a defeated chuckle.
‘Ah, this is just too much.’
How can people change so much overnight?
I felt like crying from the injustice.
But no matter how much I resented them, the situation didn’t change.
‘Should I ask Yu Hee-na for help?’
But she was already busy playing and laughing with her lackey.
‘I’m out of her sight.’
Left with no other choice, I reluctantly fetched a ball.
‘Fine, I’ll practice alone.’
Being friends with Ban Ha-min and then not wanting to be friends with me anymore. What a harsh world.
Chatting with Ban Ha-min and then not being friends with me, what a harsh world.
The root of all evils, Ban Ha-min… I vented all my resentment towards him and then practiced angry tosses with the ball.
While I was practicing alone with the ball,
“Joo-eun.”
A girl from my class called me.
“Yes?”
“Can you help me with something?”
I could help, but… why me?
We were in the same class but had hardly spoken a few words to each other.
‘What’s this about?’
It seemed suspicious that she was talking to me at this time.
Curious, I followed her without protest.
“What do you need help with?”
She pointed towards the physical education storage room.
“Ah, there… I need to get something, but I can’t reach it…”
I’m 165 centimeters tall, above average for a girl, and the girl in front of me looked about 10 centimeters shorter than me.
So, her asking for my help wasn’t too strange.
‘Ah, is this why she called me?’
Without any suspicion, I entered the storage room.
“Which one?”
“Um… that one…?”
She pointed to something dusty on the top shelf.
‘I don’t think I can reach that either.’
Wouldn’t it be better to call a tall boy? I glanced back briefly.
Seeing my glance, the girl looked at me with pleading eyes.
‘Sigh.’
Alright. I’m here, so let’s at least try.
I moved a chair inside the storage room to the front of the shelf.
“Is that it?”
I confirmed again. The girl rolled her eyes slightly and nodded.
I climbed onto the chair and stretched my hand towards the shelf.
But as expected, it was too high.
‘Struggling, can’t I reach it?’
I stretched my arm as much as I could, but it was still not enough to reach the top shelf.
Eventually, I gave up and said,
“Sorry, but I don’t think I can do it…”
That’s when it happened.
Bang!
The door closed loudly.
‘Huh?’
What’s she doing, closing the door suddenly?
Sensing something suspicious, I stepped down from the chair and approached the door.
I could hear giggling from outside.
“She looks so stupid.”
“I can’t believe she actually went in.”
Could it be?
I tried the door handle.
Click click click.
No matter how much I tried, the firmly closed door wouldn’t open.
Click click click click.
“What?”
That’s when I realized the situation I was in.
‘Sigh.’
I looked at the closed door, feeling helpless.
‘Unbelievable.’
That’s how I ended up locked in the physical education storage room.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
