Cedar’s voice jolted me awake as if I’d been doused with ice water.

I pushed Grisha’s chest away with both hands—now far too close—and replied,

“I made the magic potion. Grisha helped me a great deal.”

Grisha stared blankly at Cedar for a moment, then sighed.

He bowed his head and pressed a kiss to the end of my hair, which he’d been holding all this time.

Startled, I widened my eyes and stared at Grisha.

‘Why?’

Wasn’t that kind of affectionate gesture something only very close people did? I couldn’t understand why he’d do it to me now.

But I never got the chance to ask—Cedar stepped right between us.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

“It doesn’t seem like it’s any of your business. The person involved hasn’t said a word.”

To be precise, I simply hadn’t had the chance to speak.

I wanted to clarify that, but Cedar pulled me behind his back and wouldn’t let me out, so once again, my chance to speak slipped away.

Grisha gave a faint smile and bowed slightly.

“The interruption’s arrived, so I’ll take my leave, Nelly. I’ll hear your answer another time.”
