Serbet spoke the word and then chewed over it in his mind. Perhaps it was all fate—that Grita, an ordinary mage, had accidentally summoned him; that Nazaboot had descended; and that Grita’s daughter had just happened to appear before him.

“You’ve suffered much lately.”

Laustonio bowed his head respectfully at Serbet’s words. Serbet, who had been gazing at the darkened night sky, turned to look at the gray wolf.

“For now, do not leave Cordelia’s side. Nazaboot’s ultimate target is surely Cordelia.”

Leonard’s insides were burning black with anguish.

Ever since Anton lost consciousness at Maximilian’s hand, he hadn’t slept properly once. A sharp, needle-like pain constantly pierced his heart without warning.

After going more than two days without proper sleep or food, Gasil and Beluce pleaded with him to rest, deeply worried. Yet his restless, anxious mind wouldn’t allow him to lie down. If Cordelia were to stop breathing while he dozed off, even for a moment, he knew he’d never forgive himself.

“Please.”

Even his last desperate hope—the demon summoning—had ended in failure. After Cordelia was swept into the summoning circle instead, he tried again, but no demon answered his call. Leonard carried the unconscious Cordelia back to the castle.

Now, all he could do was hold Cordelia’s hand as she lay senseless and pray.

“Please wake up.”
