“Who are you?”

“Let’s see. Hmm. You don’t look too promising. Anyway, when did you conduct the apprenticeship ceremony with him?”

“It’s a secret.”

“…….”

The hall fell silent at Cordelia’s response. As the atmosphere grew tense, she tactfully relayed what Leonard had advised her.

“Master told me to just walk past if old, um, elderly people approach….”

Rosenbluer stepped forward to defend her.

“Menuphio sir, Mrs. Abrams is still unfamiliar with the etiquette of wizards.”

“Mrs?”

“Yes?”

“Mrs. Abrams. Abrams is her husband’s surname.”

“Ah, are you married?”

“Yes. But if it’s not too much trouble, may I proceed first? I need to visit Master’s lab.”

“Hold on.”

Menuphio coughed loudly and then stopped Cordelia as she tried to leave.

“I am Menuphio Alpan, Sirius of the Liannon faction.”

Cordelia understood this meant he was the head of the Liannon school. She introduced herself in return.

“I’m Cordelia Abrams, a disciple of Leonard Atillay.”

“Going to Atillay’s lab? Do you have the key?”

“Yes, I received it from Master.”

She rummaged in her pocket and showed the old key to him. Menuphio glanced at it and muttered,

“It’s real.”

“I really need to hurry. May I go to the lab first?”

It was clear why Leonard had told her to ignore people and proceed. Every step she took, someone blocked her path.

“I’ll let you go. But you have to deal with these old folks first.”

“Excuse me?”

Menuphio mischievously hit his staff on the ground, and Cordelia began to float. As she flailed in shock, he told her to stay calm and swiftly propelled her through the air.

“Aah!”

She zoomed past the scenery in a blur. When she opened her eyes again, she realized she was in a completely different space.

Instead of the bustling crowd, a huge round table was surrounded by five elderly men and women, all staring at her as if she were an exotic animal.

“Is this girl Atillay’s disciple?”

“If she’s grown this much, he should’ve brought her to greet us earlier!”

“Even after all my nagging about training successors, that rascal. Well, he seems to have prepared for after his death.”

“Girl, when did you do the apprenticeship with Atillay?”

“How much did your master teach you?”

All five spoke at once, overwhelming Cordelia. She looked around frantically. No doors or windows in sight.

‘I’m going crazy. I need to get to Master’s lab. How do I get out of here?’

She didn’t even know how she got in. Biting her lip, she shifted her feet nervously.

Then her eyes met Menuphio’s. He gestured towards the other Sirius with his chin.

Realizing she couldn’t reach Leonard’s lab without adequately dealing with these people, she decided to introduce herself.

“Hello, I’m Cordelia Abrams. I was mentored by Leonard Atillay.”

“Abrams?”

“Where is the Abrams family?”

“I’ve lived in Willas for over seventy years, how would I know?”

“There. Her accent sounds like Ershé, from the west side?”

“That one only knows about magic, nothing else.”
Every time she spoke, at least five sentences were hurled back at her. Although it was hard for Cordelia to adapt, she responded as calmly as she could.

“The Abrams estate is located in the northeast of Ershé, between Vasquez and Hillarst.”

“Right. And when did you begin your apprenticeship with Atillay?”

“What? Only a year?”

Surprisingly, their reaction was exactly like Rosenbluer’s, perhaps even more intense. They didn’t hide their disappointment and murmured among themselves.

“Just a year? Oh dear, that’s a big problem.”

“If it’s just been a year since the apprenticeship, isn’t she basically still a novice?”

“Ah! Why did he have to go so soon?”

“Well, at least it’s better than the lineage being completely severed, right?”

“Your name is Cordelia Abrams, correct?”

“Yes.”

“Come closer, Abrams.”

Menuphio, the only wizard she knew by name, gestured for her to approach. She obediently walked up to where he indicated.

“You are now the Sirius of Acheron.”

“Excuse me?”

“Formal ceremonies aside, from this moment, you’re a Sirius. Be prepared for that.”

“Me? A Sirius?”

She was utterly baffled by this unexpected declaration.

Menuphio continued seriously.

“Consider that many wizards’ fates rest on your shoulders. Always be humble, hone yourself…”

“Wait a minute!”

“What is it?”

“Why am I becoming a Sirius? That’s supposed to be my master’s title.”

“Well, he left you behind and passed away, so that’s why!”

A man with near-red hair interjected loudly.

“And what does that have to do with me? I’m just his disciple…”

“My dear. Aren’t you the only successor of the Acheron school? Following Atillay as the next Sirius seems logical.”

The only female wizard among the five calmly explained to Cordelia. The others chimed in.

“Yes. Although it’s late, start engaging with the Council and training successors.”

“It will probably take a lifetime.”

“Should we conduct the Sirius ceremony tomorrow?”

“The sooner, the better.”

“Where should we arrange for Abrams to stay? How about using Atillay’s old room?”

Now Cordelia understood why they were disappointed to hear she had only been a wizard for a year. They obviously expected her to take over Leonard’s legacy.

She barely suppressed the urge to scream.

‘I need to escape from here. If I don’t, they’ll trap me here as some Sirius or whatever.’

“Excuse me, but I need to go outside. My husband is waiting for me.”

That statement created a significant stir. All five wizards tsked in unison.

“A husband? You’re married?”

“Already married?”

“Tsk tsk tsk. Crazy, absolutely crazy.”

“Oh dear, why would you do that? You had such a bright future ahead.”

“Didn’t your master stop you?”

It wasn’t clear why marriage was so frowned upon, but it seemed a good enough excuse to leave. They seemed displeased but didn’t threaten to stop her from leaving.

“So, I’ll go and explain to my husband and come back later.”

“No need for later. We’ll assign someone to accompany you when you leave. Just in case you decide to wander off somewhere else.”

Cordelia figured once she reunited with Leonard, he would take care of everything.

She nodded adamantly.

“I’ll return shortly. Oh, and before that, I’d like to visit Master’s lab first.”

“The lab? Oh, right. That’s fortunate.”
“My dear, you were almost too late. We were planning to permanently close it tomorrow.”

“Ha ha. In fact, I’ve called Maximilian here.”

“What did you say!”

Cordelia felt like she was jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Hearing the last name she wanted to hear, she leaped up and exclaimed loudly, startling Menuphio, who was standing right in front of her.

“Why are you so surprised?”

“I don’t need to meet him. Please, just let me go to the lab. Please.”

“It’s not okay. He’s your master’s only kin. Surely you don’t believe those rumors?”

“What rumors?”

“The absurd rumor that Maximilian harmed Leonard.”

In Menuphio’s eyes, there was a strong belief in Maximilian. Knowing the truth, Cordelia wanted to tell him that he was being deceived but she kept her mouth shut.

“Those are just tales spread by gossips. Once you actually meet Maximilian, you’ll see how foolish those stories are. How kind and close he was to his brother, like a father.”

‘No, rumor or not, he did kill his brother! Oh no, what do I do? Should I run? But where?’

Cordelia paced around, looking for an escape, but in a space with no apparent doors or windows, all she could do was nervously shake her legs.

“Here he comes.”

Following Menuphio’s gaze, a rectangular door shape faintly glowed in the distance. Seeing this, Cordelia’s heart pounded so fiercely she thought it might break her ribs.
