“……What? How is that possible in this day and age, not two hundred years ago?”

Leonard was genuinely surprised. The time when a noblewoman’s education was considered a flaw had passed.

In fact, in an honorable family, a woman was expected to learn literature, piano, and, if possible, arithmetic and philosophy.

“I can’t believe it. How exactly did the Marquis of Vasquez raise his daughter?”

“Just as a dumb doll who obediently serves her father and husband.”

Cordelia murmured self-deprecatingly. Her father had been so averse to her learning anything that, had it not been for her mother, she probably wouldn’t have even learned to read.

Her father even disliked the idea of assigning her a governess.

“Now I understand a bit why you’re ignorant about magic. You had a talent for seeing mana but let it waste away.”

“But being a wizard’s disciple isn’t just about learning magic?”

“A wizard gives his heart to his disciple upon death.”

“Ah, you startled me.”

“Make some noise when you move. You showing your age or what?”

Baron’s sudden appearance from thin air never seemed to become any less startling, no matter how often it happened. Despite Belruce’s sharp comment, Baron continued his explanation.

“Of course, it’s not about giving the actual heart but more of a symbolic meaning. It signifies a strong bond between master and apprentice.”

“How strong is this bond?”

“For instance, excluding creating a separate star and becoming independent, they usually spend their entire lives together, often even sharing meals and accommodation.”

“Their entire lives? Seriously, until death?”

“Yes. You have to serve me for the rest of your life.”

Leonard chuckled mischievously, causing Cordelia’s face to turn pale.

She had planned to learn a few auxiliary spells and find her own way, but being stuck with Leonard for life was overwhelming.

“What if one of them gets married and moves far away?”

“Wizards rarely marry. Even if they do, the center of their lives remains the master-apprentice relationship.”

“Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness!”

“Why such a shocked face? Being by my side means you won’t have to worry about food and shelter for the rest of your life.”

“The problem is having to be by Master’s side for life! Having to put up with your foul temper forever?”

“……Are you speaking too rudely in front of me?”

“Isn’t it better than talking behind your back?”

Cordelia’s logic was sound, but Leonard realized too late that he had fallen for it.

“People would die to be by my side for a lifetime. You should be grateful.”

Belruce interjected, eyes wide. Cordelia, however, seemed not to hear. She was fixated on the word ‘lifetime’.

“Isn’t there a way to break the master-apprentice relationship?”

“What? You begged to be accepted as a disciple, and now you want to break it off? Are you insane?”

Leonard, who had been joking until then, immediately turned serious upon hearing about ending their relationship. Cordelia noticed his change in expression and spoke softly.

“No, I mean. Isn’t there a way if the relationship goes sour?”

“It’s possible.”

Baron laughed softly, continuing the explanation.

“It’s rare, but there are cases where a master disowns a disciple. This is commonly called excommunication. An excommunicated wizard can no longer claim to be a wizard and is permanently banned from the Lopel Wizardry.”

“What about a disciple disowning a master?”

“You want to get rid of me?”

“Oh, come on. When did I say that? I was just asking if such an unbelievable situation exists.”
“Hmm. To my knowledge, no. Ah, if you establish your own star and declare independence as I mentioned earlier, that would be possible.”

“A star? Are you talking about that faction?”

“Yes. If you become the new leader of the star, from then on, you are no longer a master and disciple, but equals as magicians.”

Star. The star.

Cordelia murmured the word as if it were her only breath of air. Leonard grumbled, displeased with her attitude.

“People are desperate to cling to anything, eager to learn even one more thing. You’re really full.”

“Of course, I too want to stay by the master’s side.”

For just one year. It was a sentence left unspoken.

While Cordelia was mulling things over, Baron stepped forward, summarizing the situation.

“Let’s wrap up that talk here. I have something to report.”

“What is it?”

“I finally found it. The master’s body.”

“Madam.”

“Hmm?”

“Where shall we prepare today’s meal?”

After imprisoning Helena and Arnold in the tower, Abrams Castle underwent a significant change.

People no longer called Cordelia the ‘little madam.’

In Abrams Castle, there was no longer a ‘big’ or ‘little’ madam. There was only Cordelia Abrams, the Countess.

Now the official Countess, Cordelia was exceedingly busy.

The servants consulted her for everything, from trivial meal locations to essential supply payments.

Cordelia briefly massaged her temples.

“Have tonight’s dinner brought to my room. It seems Craig is quite busy.”

“Yes. I will do that.”
