“Why don’t we bring her to our side? She seems pretty intelligent.”

“What? Are you out of your mind?”

“I can’t always be with you, especially since you’re not well. I’m worried something might happen when I’m not around…”

Leonard drew a line as soon as Baron’s concern ended.

“Nonsense. Even if I’ve lost my power, I can still take care of my own body. And why would I trust a woman whose identity I’m not even sure of?”

“It seems unlikely she’s one of theirs. I’ve looked into her past, and there’s no connection to Maximilian.”

“Maybe you just haven’t found it yet.”

“Possibly, but…”

Baron reluctantly agreed. Leonard’s paranoia was sometimes excessive, but there were times he was right.

Leonard gazed intently at the door through which she had left.

“She said she can see magic.”

“What? Who did?”

“That woman. Cordelia Basquez.”

At Leonard’s words, Baron’s eyes widened in shock. He raised his voice in excitement.

“Is that true? Even the great mage Rahel could only feel magic, not see it. My word, if that’s true, the Ropel Mage Association, no, the entire continent of Wilas would be turned upside down.”

“Yes, exactly. But can all this be mere coincidence? Just as I wake up in Craig Abrams’ body, this woman with such an incredible talent turns out to be his wife, and she even wants to be my apprentice.”

Only then did Baron understand Leonard’s deep suspicion. It was doubtful enough to meet Cordelia by chance, let alone in such circumstances.

However, Baron had a different view.

“Do you think someone deliberately orchestrated this situation?”

“Well, who knows.”
“Forgive me for being presumptuous, but how could it be possible? To have a woman with the talent to see magic, prepared a year in advance for marriage knowing that you would awaken in this body?”

“…….”

Leonard found himself unusually at a loss for words to Baron’s question. He couldn’t refute his point.

“There’s no such thing as coincidence for a mage, only…”

“Only the inescapable hand of fate.”

Leonard naturally finished his sentence. It was an old adage among mages.

“Even if this is all fate, I can’t accept a woman I don’t trust as my apprentice.”

Baron wanted to add something to Leonard’s firm resolve, but he held back as his master waved his hand dismissively.

“Stop talking nonsense and bring me something to eat. I can’t stand the stench of the food in this castle.”

“Oh dear. Did you not eat anything? Just hold your nose and eat. I must have pampered our master too much. You’re too picky about food.”

“Pampered? Who pampered whom? Just serve the meal.”

“Oh dear. My bones ache serving my master at this old age.”

The water column, taking Baron’s form, became opaque and then fully materialized into a human shape.

He cleared the tray left by Cordelia and neatly arranged the food he brought.

Normally, Leonard would have complained about the cold soup or its saltiness, but he was so hungry he focused silently on his meal.

Baron watched him with a mixture of amusement and pity.

“Master.”

“What?”

When he first heard the news of his death, it felt as though the sky had fallen. The pain of a knife plunged into his heart, ripping and tearing, left him breathless.

He hadn’t followed his master in death only because he hadn’t yet found his body. His intention was to send off his master with his own hands and then die before him.

Then one day, like a miracle, a letter with the Attilay crest sent by Leonard arrived.

He couldn’t recall how much he wept holding that letter.

“Why does this old man cry and ruin the appetite of someone eating?”

“I’m, I’m so relieved you’re alive. Really…”

Baron couldn’t contain his emotions and wept on his knees in front of Leonard.

Leonard put down his cutlery and stood before the old man crying like a child.

“Baron. Remember this.”

“Yes.”

“You will stand by my side when I reclaim my rightful place. Just lay low until then. That day will come soon.”

“Yes, master. I will wait and trust in you.”

Baron wiped his tears and smiled, his wrinkled eyes curving up.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
