Naming the emotion welling up inside him wasn’t particularly difficult.

It was what people commonly called jealousy.

Back when he’d had Seo Yoon all to himself, this wasteful emotion—unnecessary to feel—had helped him forget the sins of his past.

It was pathetic how all the countless promises he’d made so far were crumbling over mere jealousy, yet it was truly unavoidable.

A confession—damn it, a confession of all things.

“It’d probably be better to just pretend to be friends.”

Kang Hyun slammed his emptied shot glass onto the table with a loud clatter, his eyes twisting in anger as he tried not to lose to Ha Jun.

“It’s not up to you, Director Tae, who’s merely pretending to be her superior, to decide that. Don’t harbor any other feelings toward Ji An.”

“And if I do?”

“Ji An was hurt so badly—both physically and emotionally—that it’s practically a miracle she’s walking around so normally now. She’s only just begun to live properly again. You’ve already made her, who’s lost her memory, learn she was adopted—so don’t expect anything else from her. Do you miss your dead lover’s face that much? Are you treating another woman as a replacement?”

“I’ve never thought of her that way.”

Nor could he ever.

Perhaps it was the alcohol—but Kang Hyun’s usual composure, maintained out of habit, finally cracked.

Just uttering that sentence made his chest burn, and almost immediately his throat tightened.

“Managing Director Tae Kang Hyun, Ji An’s naturally very affectionate. You seem to be seriously mistaken, thinking she’s letting you stay close out of pity…”
