Kang Hyun parked his car in Ji An’s apartment complex and followed her into the elevator.

“I’m really fine.”

“I’m just anxious. I’ll make sure you get safely inside your home.”

Ji An finally nodded and pressed the elevator’s close button.

Though it seemed unlikely anything would happen during the short ride from the main entrance to her door, no amount of reassurance—repeated even as he stepped out of the car—had convinced him otherwise.

Silently recalling Kang Hyun’s inflexible nature, she stole a glance at him standing firmly beside her.

Since he never bothered to smile unless he needed to make a good impression, his sharp eyes appeared even more pronounced, creating an aura that made others hesitant to approach.

Though he looked gaunt—likely from skipping meals—his naturally good bone structure meant he didn’t appear merely thin.

Still, having him steadfastly by her side undeniably brought her comfort.

It would be a lie to say she wasn’t frightened at all by the sharp metal that had tried to stab her.

“I know this might feel burdensome, but please bear with me just a little longer.”

Kang Hyun, who had been staring straight ahead with a blank expression, hesitated before finally speaking.

“It’s not burdensome at all.”

Ji An swallowed the unspoken words—“I’d rather it felt burdensome”—and lowered her eyes to her toes.
