Kang Hyun, who had been quietly listening to Yeon Ju’s words, parted his dry lips.

“Something else.”

“There’s plenty. Do you really think there’s anything he hasn’t heard? ‘She’s so young, yet she seduced men with her body and changed her fate.’ That’s the phrase I heard most often from your stepmother.”

A deep sigh escaped.

While isolating Seo Yoon from the world within his embrace, he hadn’t stopped a single person from approaching her.

“Even if it was a gathering where nothing could possibly leak outside—why did you even take her there?”

“She hated being cooped up at home, and I didn’t want to let her wander off alone. I took her for a change of mood.”

“That’s bragging, you lunatic.”

Hearing such an absurd reply, Yeon Ju immediately cursed.

“I was Seo Yoon’s misfortune.”

His low voice scraped against his parched throat.

The guilt from the past slowly tightened its grip around his neck, preventing even a single step forward.

Yeon Ju’s usual nagging—“You should cherish someone while you still have them”—now scattered like tinnitus.

He felt utterly distant, as if everything were a dream.
