Ha Joon, with a grim expression, took a deep breath.

To avoid getting entangled with the expressionless man, he needed to maintain his composure.

“What are you hiding? There’s a lot of hush-hush at the prosecution side. Even stopping the investigation of the suspect who was allegedly driving under influence.”

This is why it’s uncomfortable.

Kang Hyun, annoyed by Ha Joon’s interrogation-like approach, brushed his bangs back.

“Ha Joon, your job is to catch Gu Sejun.”

“And once we catch him, Prosecutor Jang will take over, won’t he? Leaving us with no say.”

“Just follow orders.”

“What?”

“That’s a common phrase in your line of work, isn’t it?”

As Ha Joon bristled, the automatic door opened again.

Seokwon, looking drained from spending awkward time in someone else’s home, emerged.

“Let’s go, Mr. Taekang Hyun. You need to rest. Ji-an is urging me to take you back.”

“Alright then.”

Kang Hyun, irritated, nodded at Ha Joon and turned around.

“Why did Ji-an take only you, Mr. Taekang Hyun?”

“I don’t know.”

Seokwon, walking towards the parked car, shared his heavy thoughts.

“I’m worried, seeing Ji-an so close with her parents. How will they all react if her memory returns?”

The thought of Seo Yoon affectionately calling her parents, and their loving response, lingered in Kang Hyun’s mind.

“Ji-an wasn’t the one they loved. It was the past Seo Yoon.”

Kang Hyun firmly separated Ji-an and Seo Yoon.

One can’t completely change their innate nature.

Would they have been a happy family if the real Ji-an had returned?

He believed it was possible only because it was the bright, warm, and loving Seo Yoon before he ruined her.

“But…”

“Everyone around her said there was no need for her to regain her memory. That must indicate issues with Ji-an’s behavior.”

“Probably.”

“The time between filing a missing report and the parents finding Ji-an in the hospital was over three years. Ji-an lived alone since leaving her grandparents’ house. Considering the strained relationship with her parents, she might have spent more time with Seo Yoon.”

As Kang Hyun spoke calmly, the car beeped in recognition of the smart key.

Reaching the black sedan, Kang Hyun halted.

“Even if everything is revealed, they’ll eventually accept Seo Yoon as their daughter, assuming she rejects the name Ji-an upon regaining her memory.”

Seokwon, standing beside the driver’s door, looked at Kang Hyun across the frozen handle.

“What if she chooses to live as Seo Ji-an instead of Han Seo Yoon?”

Seokwon’s question mingled with the cold wind, stinging the skin.

The chill that had permeated their bodies from being outside for a while seeped deep inside, even reaching Kang Hyun’s heart, diligently doing its job.

“If she refuses, I’ll beg on my knees, plead, and if that doesn’t work…”
Kang Hyun, hesitating at the open door with his hand on the doorknob, was pondering a dilemma that seemed impossible to resolve.

“Seokwon, what should I do if even that doesn’t work? Can you tell me?”

Kang Hyun asked Seokwon, giving a weak, powerless smile, and then got into the car.

Ji-an, with a big box of pineapple sticks from the mart on top of her large suitcase, locked the door.

Her fingers trembled as she punched in the passcode, excited at the thought of spending up to two weeks with him.

It felt like returning home from a long journey.

Dragging the suitcase through the eerie, desolate corridor, Ji-an sighed at the lifeless space. The hallway was so quiet that the sound of the suitcase wheels echoed loudly against the marble.

When Ji-an turned on the living room lights, Kang Hyun leisurely emerged from his study.

“Mr. Taekang Hyun, at least keep some lights on. Aren’t you scared alone? And with the weather being cold, how about laying down some rugs? Oh, and let’s buy and set up a Christmas tree.”

Kang Hyun, who expected the unexpected visitor to be Seokwon, watched Ji-an bustling around the living room, then rubbed his eyes, wondering if he was seeing things.

“Why are you here? And this suitcase?”

Rubbing his eyes didn’t change the reality of Ji-an and the big suitcase. He was a bit uneasy, unable to guess why she would be here so soon after moving.

“What’s going on?”

Kang Hyun strode towards Ji-an and grasped her shoulders.

“I came to take care of you, planning to stay here for a while. I’ve got permission from my parents. You won’t send me back, right? We’re dating and we’re not too young. I’m not suggesting we live together, just until you get better…”

Ji-an cautiously gauged Kang Hyun’s reaction, spilling out her words.

“You’re going to stay here?”

Kang Hyun’s grip on her shoulders tightened.

“Not for long. I want to put you to sleep myself. Starting tomorrow, you can eat proper meals, so I’ll cook for you, and then…”

Before Ji-an could finish, Kang Hyun lifted her by her hips, surprising her.

“What are you doing? Put me down! You shouldn’t be straining after surgery!”

Elevated above Kang Hyun, Ji-an scolded him as her legs wrapped around his waist.

“How long will you stay?”
