No sooner had she finished speaking than Delia’s legs gave out, and she fell backward with a thud.

It was a pitiful sight.

“Delia!”

Her brother—also Duke Palo—rushed over in a panic, having watched the scene unfold in shock.

“What are you doing? Get her up quickly!”

Lloyd ordered someone to lift Delia to her feet. Naturally, there was no concern in his voice—no “Are you all right?”

To Lloyd, Delia was nothing more than a beautiful jewel in his hand—nothing more.

I turned away from the two of them and gave a light bow to the nobles who stood watching, stunned and horrified.

“I apologize for startling you all. I assumed my two old friends would be delighted to see me alive again—but apparently not.”

The nobles’ eyes darted rapidly, as if calculating which side to align with, weighing their options like seasoned courtiers.

Though most of them had never seen me before—thanks to my absence from social gatherings—I knew precisely who each of them was, at least roughly.

After all, these were faces I’d encountered in countless regressions.

“In one week, I plan to hold my engagement ceremony with Duke Violentus. I realize the schedule is rather abrupt, and some of you may find it inconvenient… but I would be grateful if you could attend and offer your congratulations. Invitations have already been sent to your residences—please check for them.”

What could possibly be more shameless than distributing invitations to one’s own engagement at someone else’s?

And yet, that shameless act was precisely what I was doing.
