“Poison? What are you talking about? Why all of a sudden?”

“It appears that poison was mixed into the coffee you often drink, sir. We are currently investigating, but nothing has been confirmed.”

Riley looked worried, in contrast to Sock, who was utterly calm. She seemed quite familiar with this kind of situation.

“Poison isn’t uncommon, but in this case, it seems to be a new type of poison you haven’t encountered before. You collapsed because you have no resistance to it.”

“……Is it not life-threatening?”

“I can’t be sure, but perhaps.”

“……Perhaps?”

“Even a highly lethal poison can’t easily take a magician’s life. When magicians sense something is wrong with their bodies, they maximize their regenerative abilities using magic.”

“……”

“Until your body completely adapts to the poison and gains resistance, you’ll either remain unconscious or be in agony for at least a few days to a few weeks. If you regain consciousness, that’s fortunate, but if you remain unconscious, well… I can’t guarantee your safety.”

Sock comforted the pale-faced Riley.

“Don’t worry too much. Poison isn’t that fatal to magicians. Unless their throats are slit, their hearts pierced, or they suffer a fatal blow to a vital organ, they don’t die easily. However, they will weaken significantly. Because they’ll be using a lot of magic continuously, their lifespan will significantly decrease over the long term.”

Shouldn’t this be a concern?

Sock’s nonchalant attitude surprised her. He’s lying there as if he’s dead, like a coffin…

“So, we should pray for him to regain consciousness?”

“Right now, yes. We don’t know the type of poison, so we can’t rashly administer any antidotes. The plan is to continually monitor him by calling in a doctor.”

“……”

“Please take good care of him for now. I have to go back to the tower.”

“Alright, go without worrying.”

After Sock left the mansion, Riley sat beside Gibnen’s bed and stared at him.

Sophia entered with a wet towel.

“You must be quite startled, miss.”

“Not just Sock, even you, Mrs. Sophia, seem calm.”

“The master has frequently experienced this sort of thing since he was young. So, there’s really nothing to be surprised about anymore.”

“……Since he was young?”

“Given his environment, it was inevitable that he would have many enemies.”

“……”

“Born with the charisma of the Lianster family, and after joining Horizon, his competitors increased, and things worsened. Since becoming the tower’s master… well, it’s self-explanatory.”

Riley clenched her lips, thinking that his world must also be filled with hardships.

When she first saw him, she envied him—a person from a completely different world, who seemed to have everything.

She never thought that behind the glamour was a shadow. Even if that shadow existed, she thought, how could his life be more miserable than hers?

Riley had only fantasized about what it felt like to look down on others from a high point, owning everything. She hadn’t thought about the weight of that position, or what it takes to sustain it.

“It must have been very frightening.”

“It would have been. Very lonely and isolated since he’s always had to bear it alone.”

“I will take care of him.”

“Will you? Then, I’ll leave it to you.”

Sophia handed over a wet towel and an ice pack, then left.

Riley gave a bitter smile. This was the first time she was alone in this bedroom with him, but seeing him lying there as if dead didn’t feel good. Her heart ached. Everyone else was calm, but Riley struggled to maintain her composure.

Carefully, Riley held his pale, large fingers.

“Wake up soon.”

I’ll wait for you.

In the dead of night.

Gibnen slowly opened his eyes. As soon as he saw the familiar ceiling, he furrowed his brow.
The ceiling he always faced when his condition was at its worst. Whenever he was in pain, had collapsed, or felt something wrong with his body, he always woke up in this place. That’s why Gibnen didn’t like his private bedroom in his residence. It was a space where he confronted his weakened self.

‘…Pathetic.’

Even though he had regained consciousness, his body was still grappling with the poison.

He wasn’t sure what type of poison it was, but this one seemed to be more lethal than most. It had been a while since his body had deteriorated this much. His battered body was still somehow fighting off the poison.

His paralyzed body wouldn’t move, and his insides felt as though they were on fire. His head ached as if it would split open, and his airways were so constricted he could barely breathe. The pain was one thing, but the frustrating inability to move was worse.

With this level of poison, he’d have to lie in bed without moving for at least three days.

Gibnen hated that. The vulnerability of lying in bed immobilized induced a fear of not knowing when or where he might be attacked again.

When the body crumbles, so does the spirit. His irritation grew because his body couldn’t keep up with his emotions.

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day

It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.

The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.

Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.

If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.

It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.

The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.

In the end, everything will come together and be explained.

One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!

In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.

Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.

However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.

Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.

Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?

——

Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.

His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.

Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”

——

The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.

Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!

Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!

The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…

——

But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.

The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.

She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…

Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”

Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”

Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

[Small Theater]

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.

Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”

Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.

Zhu Wansheng: ?

Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…

On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.

Warm breath lingers on her neck.

“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
