“What?”
“That is… Uncle was in love with her before he left for the capital to become a royal guard when he was young…”
The young boy blushed as he spoke. Noah and Amy’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. A love story like theirs was always intriguing.
Ethan clenched his fist in frustration.
“Uncle foolishly didn’t ask her to come with him or wait for him… so eventually, Weaver Lady married someone else.”
Their expressions fell, sensing what kind of person this Weaver might have been.
“Even though she lost her husband early due to a drunken accident, being the housekeeper of the lord’s manor, she had no trouble raising her son alone. But recently, she lost her job…”
Amy’s nostrils flared with excitement, while Noah looked at her skeptically. Amy was inwardly jubilant.
‘Such luck!’
She could potentially bring them all north! But being a matter concerning the Second Prince, she needed to be cautious. Amy tried to calm herself down.
“He has a son? How old is he?”
Ethan brightened up at Amy’s cautious question.
“His name is James, and he’s nineteen. He’s really smart. He used to help Weaver Lady with her accounts. But he suffered an accident when he was young, so he’s a bit physically challenged.”
“An accident?”
The boy suddenly looked indignant.
“When Weaver Lady’s husband was alive, they had an accident… James was stepped on by the horse Weaver Lady’s husband was riding. It would have been alright if he was treated right away, but he was neglected… By the time they returned to the lord’s manor and Weaver Lady sought every doctor possible, it was too late.”
Noah and Amy’s faces darkened. A child suffering permanent disability because of his own father – it was tragic.
“He can stand or walk a few steps when he’s well, but on bad days, he can’t move at all and suffers a lot.”
Amy bit her lip. Any hope of bringing them to the north seemed to fade.
‘The north is too cold for them.’
Realizing this, Ethan looked worriedly.
“Is the weather in the north often harsh?”
“It’s snowing for nine months a year. Half the time, it’s completely snowbound.”
Ethan’s face darkened, probably thinking Vernon would have agreed if not for James. Amy then made a decision.
“Let’s go to your house.”
“Okay?”
Though puzzled, Ethan happily led them to his and Vernon’s home, a small cottage on a hill a little away from the village. Entering the yard, Vernon came out, frowning at the sight of Amy and Noah. Before he could speak, Amy briskly grabbed his arm and led him to the back of the house.
“Just a moment.”
“What?”
Vernon, taken aback, conversed quietly with Amy. Noah watched them intently, sensing Amy’s concern. The conversation ended quickly, and Vernon approached Noah, bowing respectfully.
“I look forward to working with you.”
Noah’s eyes widened in surprise, Ethan and the three knights cheered, and Noah looked blankly at Amy as she approached. She shrugged nonchalantly.
Vernon went inside with Ethan to pack their bags, while the three knights quickly strapped on their minimal belongings, seemingly possessing nothing of much value.
Amy bluntly asked the knights, “How skilled are you?”
Jack swallowed and replied, “Well, the worst among us is about as good as Martin.”
Noah tilted his head and asked, “Martin? Are you talking about Guard Captain Martin?”
He was the one who delivered the Emperor’s edict to them before they left the Second Prince’s palace. Jack’s face turned incredulous at his question.
“What? That guy actually became a captain?”
Living in the countryside, they seemed out of touch with current events. Dwain and Bradley joined in with their outrage.
“Wow, so that deputy captain really did it.”
“Finally succeeded, huh.”
Their experience and skills were evidently superior to someone like Martin, who, despite his low abilities, managed to secure a high-ranking position by framing Vernon and taking his place. The three began energetically disparaging Martin, discussing various ways to get back at him. Amy was astonished at the variety of curses in the Imperial language.
She interrupted again, “So, how skilled are you saying you are?”
Even with the Empress’s backing, Captain Martin wasn’t entirely incompetent. Dwain proudly stated, “We’re among the top in the Empire.”
Amy looked at them coldly, prompting Jack to add, “Well, if you had about thirty fingers, that is.”
“That so.”
They were among the top thirty in the Empire… Amy observed them coldly and then turned away to a corner of the yard. Noah started to follow her but stopped when she summoned the mercenary captain. The captain, like a shadow, appeared silently.
“I want to modify our contract.”
Following Amy’s statement, the mercenary captain raised his eyebrows but silently nodded in agreement.
Vernon, carrying a large bag, came out with Ethan. The knights took their luggage, and they all headed to the inn outside the village.
“You’re a bit late,” Joseph greeted them at the inn.
Male lead is reincarnated to save his wife
I’ve also read this one twice already. The female lead is kinda soft and gets embarrassed easily—not really my type, but the plot is definitely worth reading. Hurry up and read it, y’all!
Intro
When Shen Yuan encountered Su Jin again in his previous life, she had already become the Prime Minister of the current dynasty. As for him, the former top young master of the capital, he had long since fallen into the abyss, becoming a singer on a pleasure boat.
After a song ended, he was redeemed and sent to the Su Residence.
Su Jin respected and cherished him, gave him a roof over his head, and bestowed him with warmth. Shen Yuan fell deeper and deeper, but before he could express his feelings, Su Jin passed away.
Shen Yuan died to follow her in death, but instead, he returned to when he was fifteen years old.
At that time, he was not yet engaged, and Su Jin was just a poor scholar.
Shen Yuan gritted his teeth, casting aside all his pride, and thought of ways to coax and entice her every day.
The colder and more indifferent Su Jin was towards him, the more proactive Shen Yuan became.
He was not afraid of being mocked by the world, only wanting to marry his Wife-master early, to hold her hand and never let go for a lifetime.
[Note: This story will not specifically point out the male lead’s reincarnation time point; it’s all in the details. Whenever you feel that the male lead is acting strangely, he has most likely been reincarnated.]
