“Your Highness, the wind is cold. Shall we go inside now?”

Seeing Noah staring blankly out the window, Rita quietly approached and spoke.

“…Already?”

Noah pouted and frowned. Ever since he’d been forbidden from going outside due to the lingering effects of poisoning, his daily pleasure had been sitting by the grand floor-to-ceiling window in the sunlit reception room, wrapped in a thick cloak, sipping hot tea.

Of course, Rita knew exactly why the Duke had suddenly started frequenting the reception room so often. She gently coaxed Noah, whose expression remained sullen.

“Miss Amy will be coming in soon.”

“Then I should go.”

At those words, Noah immediately rose from his chair without hesitation. Yet, reluctant to leave, he lingered for a moment, stealing one last glance out the window. There, Amy sat at a table, drinking tea and chatting with former Captain of the Royal Guard, Morton.

Lately, Amy had been meeting with long-time residents of the ducal palace—people like Melburn, Morton, and even retired guards. She seemed to have questions for them, though no one knew precisely why.

“Let’s go.”

Noah trudged gloomily out of the reception room, with Rita following behind. As they climbed the stairs, they ran into Melburn coming down from the upper floor.

“Your Highness, heading back to your chambers?”

Melburn hurried over, smiling as he saw how much better Noah looked, and Noah gave a brief nod before continuing up the stairs indifferently. Just as Melburn shrugged and turned to descend again, Noah suddenly turned back and asked him,

“What did Amy ask about?”

Startled for a moment, Melburn quickly collected himself and replied,
