Ga Eul knew all too well that things in life didn’t always go as one intended. Still, this was absurd—ever since she’d resolved to confess her feelings to the President, the world had thrown obstacle after obstacle in her path.

Matters had twisted in ways she could hardly believe. It all began with an unwelcome phone call.

Just after washing off the mud from the tidal flats in the shower and about to head downstairs for breakfast, Ga Eul received a call from Seon Woo Jin’s mother.

— You’ve heard Woo Jin came back, right?

No, she hadn’t. Her own situation had been moving too frantically for her to keep up with such news. Did you, ajumma, ever get kidnapped?

— Well, he says he’s coming to Taean today to meet you. No matter how much I try to dissuade him, he won’t listen. You…

Even after hanging up, Ga Eul couldn’t shake off her foul mood. So he’d heard I was traveling with the President… What a malicious phrasing. It was technically true, yet entirely misleading.

Did Woo Jin’s mother genuinely not know that Ga Eul had come here with her entire family—and specifically to find Yoo Sung Mok? That seemed unlikely.

She’d deliberately used that phrasing—implying: “Don’t even think about coming back to my son.” As if I needed that warning—I have no intention of returning to Woo Jin anyway.
