Eun Chae sat up, her face paler and more exhausted than it had ever been since living here.

She turned her gaze aside and found the spot next to her empty, as if she had slept alone from the start. Looking at Gi Ju’s vacant space—without even knowing when he’d left—Eun Chae gave a hollow laugh.

Last night, though unintentional, she ended up pretending to be asleep and realized just how seductively a man’s breathing could sound.

And to tell her not to move at all? She couldn’t even twitch, finally managing to drift off only at dawn.

Fanning her flushed face, Eun Chae stepped out onto the wooden veranda. As soon as she opened the sliding doors and stepped outside, she came face-to-face with the very reason for her oversleeping. He was placing a cauldron lid back onto the stove.

“I’ll run to the supermarket quickly.”

Having easily finished Geum Bun’s errand, Gi Ju naturally followed her out.

“I’ll be right back, so don’t come out.”

Eun Chae, insisting on going alone, turned to leave but stopped again.

“Oh, do you happen to have any cash? They only take cash there.”

She’d already given nearly all the money Mi Rae had given her to Geum Bun, who had stubbornly refused it at first.

She’d told her to use it for utilities or something, leaving Eun Chae with only five thousand won. She’d need more if she wanted to treat Woo Seok, who’d fed her so generously all this time.

Without a word, Gi Ju went back inside and returned with his wallet.

“Take however much you need.”

Expecting at most ten thousand won, Eun Chae opened his wallet and was surprised. Several fifty-thousand-won notes were tucked inside. They must have been crisp new bills—the wallet didn’t even look uncomfortably bulky.
