Two years ago, Kwon Gi Ju, who had let go of Song Eun Chae’s hand and fallen off the cliff, went back to square one and began investigating independently of the organization. His desire for revenge grew even stronger as he sought to rescue Eun Chae, trapped in Chairman Song Myung Hwan’s mansion.

He meticulously sifted through the cleanest portions of the assets left behind by Eun Chae’s mother and dug even deeper into the people surrounding Song Myung Hwan.

Although Park Moo Sung’s hospitalization bore an unmistakably clear diagnosis—and thus KIS had dropped interest—Gi Ju still couldn’t let go of his suspicion that Song Myung Hwan might be involved. After all, Song Myung Hwan, who visited Heukseok-dong as if he’d spread honey there, surely didn’t view the barely communicative Park Moo Sung as anything sweet.

Thus, near the end of his investigation, Gi Ju secretly approached Paju Dae, the cleaning aide who’d abruptly quit working at that house. Posing as a police officer, he claimed he was investigating the relationship between Chairman Song Myung Hwan and Park Moo Sung.

He didn’t hold high hopes, yet Paju Dae’s elderly face remained visibly uneasy the entire time.

“Why did you quit?”

“Well, my children are all married off, and I’ve even started taking care of grandchildren, so I figured it’s time to rest…”

“You were in charge of cleaning Mr. Park Moo Sung’s bedroom, right? Did you perhaps…?”

“I already told you—I don’t know anything!”

Paju Dae’s outsized reaction to such an innocuous question was a familiar pattern to Gi Ju. He persisted, interrogating her relentlessly.

“Do you realize that concealing information is itself a crime? You could become implicated in wrongdoing. Now that you’ve retired, you should be enjoying a peaceful old age with your married children and grandchildren.”

Though it was meant as persuasion, Paju Dae took it as a threat. Her wrinkled lips trembled faintly. After keeping her mouth tightly shut for a long while, she finally revealed a clue.
