Unlike the White agents who are openly visible, Black agents like them do not reveal private matters, such as family relationships.

It’s not officially forbidden, but below the executive and part leader levels, they tacitly avoid such topics among themselves. Yet Kwon Gi Ju, who became the organization’s secret weapon with his overwhelmingly superior coding skills, casually brought up his personal history.

Is it really true? From the moment Kwon Gi Ju was deployed as a Black agent, he maintained the necessary courtesy but never showed respect or fear. He didn’t act arrogantly just because of his skills, so there was no reason for conflict, but agents of the same rank as Kwang Il found him intimidating.

Since Kwon Gi Ju, who doesn’t easily let people get close, drew a clear line just the same, this kind of talk was probably the first time he’d shared it with anyone besides the executives who know his identity.

So it took years of being partners to finally get close.

“What a guy—you think you know him, then you don’t.”

Kwang Il ran his thick, rough hand through his hair and looked around the room. You’d expect scattered clothes, but only the necessary items were placed with measured precision, and the space had no trace of lived-in smell.

“Even if I searched, I wouldn’t find a speck of dust.”

It wasn’t affection, but sympathy was a dangerous emotion that couldn’t be ignored either.

Song Eun Chae was essentially just a tool being used by the Chairman, so a moderate amount of protection and surveillance could be justified, but if it went too deep, it could ruin the job.

Kwang Il glanced at the laptop on the desk but quickly looked away. Would Kwon Gi Ju, who left it out in plain sight even with someone in the room, really have left anything on it?

In the early days, when Kwang Il was both partner and watcher to verify Gi Ju’s qualities as a Black agent, he often rummaged through his belongings and searched his houses, but everything was so thoroughly concealed that he couldn’t even figure out what the guy liked or disliked.

As it turned out, he actually lived in several different houses, each furnished with completely different items, and even the furniture brands varied from house to house.

When Kwang Il learned that Gi Ju had created multiple fake families on his own without being told, he seriously wondered if this guy was really a rookie or if he himself was the one being watched.

The laptop on the desk had certainly been set up so that when powered on again, it would boot into a screen protected by a password that couldn’t be cracked right now.
