That wasn’t due to a grudge; digging up dirt was second nature for Kwon Ki Joo.
“Anyway, Kyung Jun promises to stay quiet if he’s spared.”
“Got it. Now leave.”
“Yes, sir.”
Lee Kwang Il rubbed his eyes, troubled by the lingering image of Kwon Ki Joo carrying Song Eun Chae the night before.
All that frenzy, wasn’t it all because of that woman, Song Eun Chae?
The gossip, the nasty remarks about her.
The mere thought made his blood boil.
“……Song Eun Chae.”
Kwang Il spat out the troublesome name with a headache.
Diwon Group’s rising star, Park Jin Sung, was newly promoted as the head of the Electronics Business Division.
Park Jin Sung, son of Park Moo Sung, boasted a high education and international background. Rumors suggested his success was possible only with Chairman Song’s backing. His young age at thirty-five marked him as an extraordinary appointment.
Despite the company’s rapid growth, such appointments raised concerns. But with Chairman Song’s strong influence, no one dared to speak out.
With Song’s stepdaughter’s political marriage imminent, everything seemed to fall into Chairman Song’s favor.
After Park Moo Sung’s death, Chairman Song took even more care of his family. Park Jin Sung’s mother, Sung Moon Hee, also visited the house.
“Getting married tomorrow, I hear. Congratulations.”
Eun Chae stood, not understanding why she had to greet this woman. Why did she never visit when Park Moo Sung was alive?
“……Thank you.”
“First time meeting family so close to our own.”
“Ah. Yes. Nice to meet you.”
Chairman Song, observing the scene, warmly greeted Moon Hee.
“We should have invited you sooner. Let’s go for dinner.”
“Yes, Chairman.”
Responding politely, Moon Hee gestured to Eun Chae and turned to leave.
Eun Chae, watching Chairman Song and Moon Hee’s departing figures, felt uncomfortable and uneasy.
She skipped dinner and went to her room, feeling the unsettling faces of Chairman Song and Moon Hee.
Was it good that she skipped dinner, considering her tight wedding dress?
Even at bedtime, Eun Chae felt no hunger.
Looking at her slim stomach in the mirror, she applied lotion to her face. She realized she would soon leave this room.
The wedding day had finally arrived.
The new home would be an apartment, with plans to move to a house in Yongsan later, as told by Chairman Song, not Han Seung Yoon.
Could she really live with him for that long?
Just because they were getting married didn’t guarantee they would be together until death; in fact, it was an impossibility.
The groom was Han Seung Yoon, and Eun Chae was subtly bothered by Ki Joo. Not exactly bothered, but rather he was on her mind, and she felt conscious of him.
Initially, she had rushed the wedding, thinking she didn’t care about him and was even ready to throw her life into this marriage. Then, she wanted to assert her position as a secondary, and now…
She couldn’t help but be bothered by him, even though she wanted to feel relieved. He continuously tried to dissuade and persuade her against the marriage.
Would he remain as her secondary even after she married?
She wanted to ask what he was up to today but couldn’t see him anywhere. Perhaps it was more comfortable not to see him. As she was settling her thoughts, she heard a knock.
Knock-knock.
Just as the saying goes, speak of the tiger and it appears, Eun Chae thought it was Ki Joo and couldn’t guess what he might say, opening the door with a strange feeling.
“May I talk to you for a moment?”
But it wasn’t Ki Joo standing at the door; it was Kwang Il.
He left her standing stunned and said he would wait in the greenhouse.
After watching Kwang Il descend the stairs, Eun Chae closed the door, put on a thick cardigan, and headed to the greenhouse.
Kwang Il, being Chairman Song’s direct bodyguard and the head of the security team, was someone she rarely interacted with, so she couldn’t guess why he would come to talk.
Feeling the cold night air on her neck, Eun Chae regretted not bringing a scarf as she entered the greenhouse.
Kwang Il stood there in the greenhouse. Although Ki Joo was taller and more muscular than most men, Kwang Il had a slightly bulkier build, making the greenhouse feel full.
Eun Chae looked around the greenhouse, feeling both unfamiliar and slightly scared. She wondered what he could possibly have to talk about in her private space, away from the eyes of others.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
