Ki Joo, despite just breathing, found his breath growing rougher.

In the strange calm before the storm, he suddenly grasped Eun Chae’s wrist. She was quickly pulled into the room. The door slammed shut with a loud bang.

“Staff are on their way.”

There was a policy not to drink alcohol because of the night shift. They were only going to have dinner and return, so they should be arriving around now. While Ki Joo calculated this in his mind, his face remained calm.

Eun Chae, apparently not having considered this, looked panicked, yet she didn’t seem to want to leave as she opened her mouth.

“Mrs. Hwang’s return to work, that was you, Ki Joo, wasn’t it?”

Ki Joo’s eyebrows knitted at the unfamiliar address, then he remembered that Chairman Song referred to Mrs. Hwang that way.

On such a late night, why did she come?

Ki Joo released her wrist and sat down on the bed. He looked up at her, standing still in her place, uncomfortable with the situation, wrapping her arms around her forearms.

“Chairman Song’s dog. Why are you helping me?”

“…”

“Is it out of pity?”

Eun Chae’s voice quivered pitifully as she asked. Her face looked like she was about to cry if he answered. She seemed in a hurry as she fumbled in her cardigan pocket.

Finally, she held out a lighter in her hand.

When Ki Joo just stared at her, she threw the lighter on the bed and asked,

“You came back because you can’t forget me, right?”

“…”

“Yet you’re still not ready to run away? You say you want me?”

Eun Chae was composed, demanding the truth with her intelligent eyes, yet not completely hiding her fragile emotions.

“Son of a…”

She uttered each word sharply, her lips firm. Ki Joo involuntarily tensed his chest.

How do you not like this, suffer from it.

Eun Chae felt Ki Joo’s gaze on her, bitterly somber.

Cowardly, yet why such an expression?

She decided not to understand the incomprehensible Ki Joo.

“I asked you for help. Don’t read too much into it.”

“…”

“I would’ve asked anyone in front of me. I was desperate.”

His brows narrowed. He seemed heart-sore, and perhaps, annoyed.

“We’re not running away.”

It was a clear statement, crushing even a sliver of hope. Eun Chae’s heart twinged for a moment, but instead of showing it, she licked her lips and said,

“…I don’t intend to either.”

Their eyes met in the air.

Eun Chae did not look away but stared back. She thought being hurt and shrinking back was enough once.

The silence was broken by a knock. Suddenly faced with the possibility of being caught, Eun Chae’s heart shrank and her eyes widened. In contrast, the so-guarded Ki Joo, without any hint of panic, stood up and went to the door.

He shielded her from view before creaking the door open just enough for a child to pass through. Ki Joo peered through the narrow gap at the unwelcome visitor.

Eun Chae hunched her shoulders, straining her ears. It seemed to be a subordinate from the security team apologizing for a recent mistake.

A slip of the tongue. Begging for forgiveness. Promising it wouldn’t happen again.

Ki Joo responded with a nod. Outside, a voice, presumably that of Lee Kwang-il, the head of security, called for him.
Ki Joo glanced back and then stepped out.

Left alone after the door closed, Eun Chae sat down on the bed. The noise outside indicated that the security team was all there. If she left now, she would only be giving them something to gossip about. She had no choice but to wait until they all fell asleep before leaving.

Without her phone and alone, Eun Chae looked around his room.

There was a king-size bed, a desk, a sofa with a matching table, and a balcony smaller than the living room.

One wall was entirely built-in wardrobes. There was still little sign of life, but compared to the studio apartment she had seen before, there were more traces of him. It seemed his statement about spending a lot of time in the annex wasn’t entirely false.

The neatly made bed was heavily imbued with his scent. Eun Chae curled up on it and buried her face in the pillow, feeling as if she had entered deep into Ki Joo’s embrace.

Why does he insist on being the bad guy?

Without excuses or explanations.

Eun Chae felt like Ki Joo was wrapped in unbreakable armor.

And how long did she dwell on these thoughts?

She was slowly engulfed in slumber. A blurry memory from the past flowed in her darkened mind.

The dream easily took Eun Chae to the past. She was in the greenhouse, which had more plants than now, but her mother looked anxious. Despite Eun Chae’s playful pleas to play, her mother only gave a bitter smile.

Then the scene shifted to the backyard. Her mother, facing Chairman Song, was so pale she looked like she might faint any moment.

Eun Chae, hidden behind a wall, watched the scene. Chairman Song’s face was ashen – she had never seen him like that before.

‘You didn’t tell Eun Chae about that, did you?’

‘How could I say such a thing to her? She’s just a child.’

Chairman Song seemed reassured by this, but her mother became more agitated.

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
