The afternoon sunlight was scorching. Before even saying hello, Han Seung-yoon’s voice pierced her ears and irritated her.
How have you been?
It was a strangely triumphant tone.
He must think he’s gained the upper hand, knowing about her secret that had been exposed to Chairman Song Myunghwan. Considering the current situation of Diwon Group deteriorating day by day, he probably felt superior in many ways.
It was a single-celled judgment of the situation. Even the timing of the phone call showed how transparent and horribly wrong Kiju’s judgment was, revealing the vile nature of her character.
“Thanks to you.”
Hearing his voice, Han Seung-yoon fell silent. Leaning against the terrace railing, Kiju muttered to herself.
“It seems like the voice I expected.”
… Parasitic bastard. You probably thought I’d still be next to Song Eunchae.
As if it wasn’t worth a speck of dust, Kiju sneered. Han Seung-yoon, without knowing it, displayed an unwarranted sense of superiority.
Even if not a drop of blood is mixed, Song Chairman is lying there like that. It’s not fair for his daughter, Song Eunchae, to be noble. Isn’t that too unfair?
If boasting nonsense is a skill, then perhaps it’s a skill. Kiju’s face solidified with a sarcastic smile.
To survive, Eunchae suppressed emotions like sadness, anger, and misery.
Even when she reached her limit, she refined her expression, reminding herself of her situation. It was unfair to receive such a low evaluation from relatives like Han Seung-yoon, who acted and avoided responsibility as it suited him.
As a victim of you and Song Eunchae, I’m thinking of reporting it to the press. Then maybe I’ll be able to walk around in this country with my head held high?
“… Sure. Well, there’s nothing I can do to stop it.”
Holding her neck, Kiju grabbed her phone. Then, she recalled the data that gathered every speck of dust about Han Seung-yoon and other relatives, including him.
Focusing solely on Chairman Song Myunghwan was just an inevitable step to completely ruin him. The fact that Han Seung-yoon’s family and external relatives’ corruption cases were detailed and stored in KIS was not yet known.
In other words, the time was not set yet; it was just a card that could be used at any time.
Kiju wondered if she should decide on that time now and turned her happy loop. Unaware of his thoughts, Han Seung-yoon smirked.
Do you understand the topic now?
“But then, won’t it be challenging to make a living?”
Smirking, Kiju laughed with her thumb pressed against her lips.
What a ridiculous bastard.
“For the crime of Representative Han Ji-chang, the punishment was too ridiculous compared to the crime.”
…
“Not to mention our extended family who makes a living through business.”
There was a moment of silence at her words, but soon Han Seung-yoon snorted and opened his mouth.
What can you do without Chairman Song? You’re a useless idiot.
A strategic marriage that Han Seung-yoon never wanted. Thanks to Chairman Song Myunghwan falling on his own, without disgrace, his dignity remained unharmed.
Why does Han Seung-yoon cling to her like this?
Ki-joo, who already had a suspicion about the reason, asked in a nonchalant tone.
“Do you like Song Eun-chae?”
At that moment, Han Seung-yoon remained silent. Amidst the uncomfortable silence, Ki-joo eventually chuckled softly. There was no clearer affirmation in this situation than silence.
Then, Han Seung-yoon snapped.
Why would I like a girl with a sordid relationship?
Starting with that statement, Han Seung-yoon presented a verbose defense, but it was full of contradictions.
His actions were like a grade schooler flipping a girl’s skirt or cutting a rubber band during rubber band jumping. Unaware emotions are so childish and pitiful.
With an annoying expression, Ki-joo said.
“Fine. Let’s assume that’s true.”
…
“Don’t crawl.”
…
“Even if your mind is bad, there must be some sense. The leash is in my hands.”
You… what’s your identity, really?
The tension in Ki-joo’s pupils softened with that question.
“Eun-chae’s husband.”
At those words, Han Seung-yoon exhaled a disappointed sigh. Whether he spoke or not, Ki-joo ended the call after a 4-minute and 30-second delay in the conversation.
Then, she skillfully deleted Han Seung-yoon’s traces from the call log and returned to her room. She placed the phone precisely where it was before picking it up.
Afterward, she casually turned on the television. The bathroom door opened right after.
Through the door, Eun-chae’s fair face appeared like the morning sunlight. She seemed uninterested in the live broadcast of a Major League Soccer game on the television.
Instead, she discovered the undressed Ki-joo and couldn’t hide her confusion. She covered her cheeks, which had turned red after the just-completed skincare, with both hands.
It’s not like you’ve only seen it once or twice. Ki-joo sat on the bed and stared openly.
Avoiding eye contact, Eun-chae awkwardly grabbed the remote control.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
