“Answer me. I asked if you would throw your life away for Han Seung Yoon.”
At those words, Eun Chae’s wavering pupils calmed down.
The day she first stepped into love. After spending the night together, he left.
Although the goals of men are all the same, she thought Kwon Ki Joo would be different.
It took a long time for her to acknowledge she was betrayed.
She lived in a state of confusion, not knowing whether the emotions for Kwon Ki Joo that filled her head were regret or hatred. She wanted to completely break down, but she couldn’t because she was like a bird in a cage.
The saying goes, “You reap what you sow.” Kwon Ki Joo, in his cowardice, showed nothing, and momentarily shook in the oncoming wind.
Before she could get hurt by the axe she trusted again, she needed to pull herself together.
Her immigration plan went down the drain, and she didn’t believe Kwon Ki Joo’s words that he would let anything slide in two months if she behaved.
That’s why she chose Han Seung Yoon.

Because she had to distance herself from the existence of Kwon Ki Joo as soon as possible.
She didn’t want to show herself swaying to his every movement and building expectations when she saw him.
It was clear as day that she would be thrown away miserably again. It’s a hundred times better to live as a showwindow couple than that.
Yet, Kwon Ki Joo, quiet like a winter midnight rain, ran to her again. The mastermind who dropped her into this pit of humiliation and betrayal is extending his hand again.
With such a nonchalant face.
“Why such a life? Then should I roll over with you like before?”
Eun Chae smirked as if she had caught him, and Ki Joo’s eyes, which were fixed on the floor, met hers.
As he took a deep breath slowly, his chest swelled. That breath was soon lazily exhaled.
“Would you?”
His voice was emotionless, yet unexpectedly tender.

Blinking several times, Eun Chae was taken aback, looking at his wicked face.
The pendant light attached to the ceiling flickered as if it was about to die. As the light intermittently went off, Ki Joo’s shadow grew darker and larger, engulfing her.
It seemed as if time stopped at the sound of his softly whispering voice.
He had run away because he couldn’t handle it. He was a person who seemed transparent but whose sincerity was elusive.
And yet, her heart sank at such a person. Foolishly.
Eun Chae’s eyebrows drew an eight and dropped.
“Mr. Kwon Ki Joo, you’ve really hit rock bottom.”
Eun Chae glared at him, full of reproach.
Yet, Ki Joo’s eyes, as ambiguous as the abyss, showed no reaction.
As if he was sincere.

The sensation of coldness that piled on the back of her hand was immediate after. There was no need to doubt whether it was the cold air or something else.
Kwon Ki Joo intertwined his fingers through hers, unabashedly asserting his presence. Eun Chae’s eyes widened to the point of discomfort.
She stared straight at the sight of the man’s head gently tilting. She wasn’t unaware of what he was trying to do. The moment his breath touched her skin, her hair stood on end. It was then that the intruder’s voice was heard.
“Team Leader Kwon, are you here?”
Just before their lips could meet, Ki Joo stopped. Instead, a viscous gaze clung sticky to her face.
Eun Chae swiftly hid her hot face to the side. Contemplating whether to hide deeper in the garden or speak, she went back and forth before ultimately heading toward the entrance. Although she was walking properly, the ground shook, and her head spun.
“Then see you in the morning.”
He spoke from behind. A faint laughter, ‘poofpoof’, was also heard. It was clearly a phrase to avoid misunderstandings from the uninvited guest.
((())) ((())) ((()))
Sunrise rose outside the window. Ki Joo stood in front of the mirror in just his shirt and vest. He swept his roughly combed hair one more time with his hand. Then he twisted his shoulder and put on his jacket. The seamless look did not seem like someone preparing for work from dawn.

With his selection of a watch from the display stand and fastening it to his wrist, he left the room.
The living room was a mess, typical of a security team’s dormitory where guys lived together. Ki Joo walked past that scene as if it were familiar.
In front of the shoe rack, I slid my foot into a pair of my flawless shoes amidst the haphazardly scattered men’s shoes. As soon as I opened the front door, the dry morning air surged in. Mrs. Seo, who was in charge of cleaning and laundry at the lodgings, was walking towards me in a brisk pace. After responding to her eye greeting with a nod, I stretched my long legs.
Leaving behind the characterless gray building of the lodgings, which had been a neglected outbuilding before being reconstructed, I climbed the uphill road leading to the main building.
At the entrance to the main building, a tree, which was nothing more than a branch, had spread up to the second floor. A white lace curtain fluttered outside the open window.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
