“I’m sorry for being late. I’m sorry but….”
Fiancé Han Seung Yoon couldn’t continue his words and gulped down two glasses of ice water straight away. He intermittently looked around. Judging by his behavior, he seemed to be enveloped in extreme anxiety for some reason.
In the meantime, Eun Chae carefully observed him, who seemed indifferent. Skin as white as if just washed, hair tips not fully dried, lipstick smeared on shirt sleeves. And he was exuding a familiar smell. It was known for the amenities provided in the rooms that one could enter by just taking the elevator down from here.
Seung Yoon, after continually checking his surroundings, leaned deeply into the backrest as if confirming something. Then, he stared with strange eyes.
“Yes, I have women I’m seeing. Not just one, but many.”
The confession of the fiancé was abrupt. The place was enveloped in silence after the sudden declaration. Eun Chae blinked her eyes with an indifferent expression that lacked any reaction. The culprit who dropped the bomb, Seung Yoon, swallowed his dry spit.
Well.
He was originally a man who had a bad reputation due to his messy private life. Engaging in blatant womanizing and frolic, Eun Chae had to endure being treated as a humiliated wife even before marriage right after the engagement announcement.
If the insiders knew, they all mocked the engagement. However, it wasn’t appropriate grounds for breaking off the engagement. That’s how marriage amongst the upper class is. A life where freedom and choice are automatically deprived from birth. Hence, one should not cling to love and must marry a partner recommended to maintain the prosperity and stability of the house.
I thought fiancé Han Seung Yoon was striving for that life.

“That expression. I really like that expression of Ms. Song Eun Chae. Even if I say I have other women, your complexion doesn’t change once.”
If the fumbling fiancé she only knew as a halfwit had met his fate. If he was about to start a reckless fight. At least, she shouldn’t be an obstacle. She had failed, but Han Seung Yoon might succeed.
Eun Chae, instead of being shaken, wiped her wet hands with a tissue. It was because she was fiddling with a cup where frost had formed while waiting for the fiancé who didn’t come. Then, she spat out a voice with no emotion.
“You could have informed me about the breakup over the phone.”
If he had said he wanted that from the beginning, there wouldn’t have been a waste of time waiting for him. As she tried to stand up from her seat, Seung Yoon’s eyes sunk menacingly.
“Are you going to shift the responsibility that way?”
Seung Yoon glared at her sideways.
“…What do you mean?”
“Stop acting pitifully. Let’s be honest, just between us.”
“…”

“What I mean is, I don’t want to compromise my freedom and private life for a marriage that’s only for show.”
Eun Chae raised her eyebrows momentarily. She was confused by the fiancé’s inexplicable behavior. But what was certain was that his words lacked persuasiveness.
No sense of guilt.
It wasn’t a struggle for love. Seung Yoon had no feelings whatsoever for her or the mistress. Eun Chae was a tool to maintain external reputation and dignity, and the mistress was a tool necessary for vulgar sexual satisfaction.
It was the worst.
“It seems more appealing if you begged me to break up because you have a woman you love.”
Seung Yoon, who had been consistently arrogant, suddenly frowned, but Eun Chae continued without any change in her expression.
“You also know? You thought I would turn a blind eye to your infidelity for the rest of my life.”
At that, Seung Yoon made a blatantly upset expression. He couldn’t stop himself because her words seemed undeniably true.
“Love can freeze to death.”

Seung Yoon’s eyebrows twitched in annoyance. He was doing his best to speak as politely as possible.
“I thought you’d be different because you’re smart, but that love rant is the same for all women, really.”
“…”
“All you, Song Eun Chae, have to do is be quiet at the engagement party this evening.”
This marriage was rotten. Even a month ago, she thought it was like muddy water, but now, Eun Chae felt like she was wearing a pile of garbage.
“We’ll get married three months later.”
Especially when Seung Yoon said ‘three months later’, he emphasized it. Then, as if not giving a chance for rebuttal, he stood up from his seat. He casually dusted off his suit jacket while standing.
“Viola, was it?” He had said, “I’ll have you play it endlessly until I die. Well, something like a solo concert.”
In this situation, Han Seung Yoon had a good memory. He remembered that his loveless fiancée’s major was in viola.
He felt as though he should shed a tear of emotion.

“I guarantee you, even if I go to such lengths as today, there will be no divorce between us. If you so desire, try it yourself.”
Seung Yoon jeered with a refined tone. It was a clear disregard and mockery, knowing well that she could never do such a thing. Then he coldly turned away and walked off.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
