「Kyaaah……!」

Thwack, a sound rang out. Charlotte aimed the amulet that had returned to her hand forward once more and thrust it out. Her eyes were flashing brightly. They seemed to blaze. Like some being that was not human.

“Yes, I have been searching for you for a very long time. Now, slowly reveal yourself, you disgusting rat. I am Charlotte Barrett. I will beat you to a pulp and use you as filling for a pie.”

A growling roar was heard.

「Do you think I would obediently listen to your words? How laughable!」

In the darkness, something wriggled and moved. Matiel, who had stepped in to block Charlotte’s front, swung his sword and sliced through the tentacle-like things that had been stretching toward them in a single strike.

“You stay back. These things are fast. Fast and…… dangerous.”

He pressed his palm firmly against the cloth where blood was beginning to seep through and gasped for breath.

“They’re coming from all directions.”

Charlotte said.

“Matiel, do you think I wouldn’t know that?”

“You don’t even have a weapon!”

“It’s not as if only swords and guns can be weapons. And I’ve dealt with that thing before you did.”

Suddenly, the back of her neck felt chilly. Charlotte spun around at a speed so fast that even Matiel would have trouble noticing and swung the amulet attached to its cord.

It was an almost instinctive movement, and it worked. Where the amulet grazed past, a hissing sound rose along with smoke, and a disgusting stench filled the air.
