Charlotte frowned, imagining the situation Holen had endured. Holen, who had been staring expressionlessly at her as she rubbed her goosebumped arms, continued speaking.

“And then I lost consciousness… When I opened my eyes, I found myself already dead. It was truly absurd. Not only was becoming a ghost absurd, but even amid that, I kept seeing my own body still pouring blood…”

“It must have felt hollow.”

Count Holen brought his clasped hands before his lips as if in prayer. He probably had that habit even when alive.

“You’re right. It did feel hollow. Thoughts kept piling up—what I had lived for until today, what would become of everything I’d done… Yet strangely, I felt only emptiness, no raging anger.”

“That’s a good thing.”

Holen raised an eyebrow at Charlotte’s words. He seemed puzzled.

She, resting her chin on her hand with one knee drawn up, spoke.

“If one feels intense anger, resentment, or sorrow after death, they’re likely to become a malevolent spirit—rendering prayers like ‘Your worldly worries and thoughts are now over; return to dust and find peace’ utterly meaningless.”

“Then I suppose I won’t become a malevolent spirit. What do you think? Do you believe I’ll reach heaven?”

“I couldn’t say for sure. Rumor has it you never kept a mistress, didn’t lust after wealth or beauty, never exploited children, and valued justice above all—if that’s true, you might at least make it to heaven’s threshold. Though you’d likely still face another judgment there. Do you believe in God?”

Holen’s pale lips twitched slightly.

“I believed fervently when I was young. Even now, I habitually pray before meals, though I’m not sure if that alone counts as faith. I’ve prayed a few times for God to look after the unfortunate, but He seems far too busy.”

Just then, a soft footstep sounded from above, followed by the click of a closing door. Charlotte straightened her knees and stood, brushing her skirt out of habit.

“So after losing consciousness… aside from realizing you were dead, do you remember nothing else? Actually, I came to see your body shortly after you died. Your spirit wasn’t here then.”

After Being Cheated On, She Picked Up a Treasure (Female-dominant)

One-line summary: The husband I married on a whim had been secretly in love with me for a long time.

On the day when Jun Shao finally obtained the imperial decree for her marriage, Lan Qu, the person she had admired for six years, defied the decree and ran away.

Her gentleness and devotion, her promise of a lifetime together, were all disregarded by him. Instead, he dreamed of entering the palace to serve the Emperor’s sister as a sixth-rank attendant.

News of this incident spread throughout the capital, and the alleys in front of and behind the Lan mansion were crowded with people who came to watch the commotion.

Jun Shao should have been embarrassed and angry.

But someone stepped in to protect her dignity.

The figure was in a miserable state, yet still possessed an undeniable elegance and handsomeness.

The young lord struggled to climb the wall of the Lan mansion and shouted to her, “If he won’t marry you, I will!”

So, Jun Shao took advantage of the situation and married the person.

She thought the young lord did it to save the Lan family from the crime of defying the imperial decree, but never imagined that from beginning to end, what he coveted was her.

*

After the wedding, Jun Shao felt like she was living in a dream.

Her Wife-master was as beautiful as a fairy in a painting, skilled in the six arts, well-versed in poetry and literature, capable of being gentle and attentive, and also grand and dignified. Most importantly, she was the only one in his heart and eyes.

Jun Shao didn’t know how Lan Shiwu, as a illegitimate son without a father and blessed with beauty, had managed to preserve his purity, recklessly escape, and use his last ounce of strength to ruin his own reputation, all because of his love for her, just to stand before her.

She could only see him gazing at her with eyes full of love, and when she bestowed a name upon him, his eyes shone like stars.

“You have come to me like a weary bird perching on a branch. I shall call you A Qi.”

Matiel is behaving childishly regarding Willa & her ‘using tricks’ to survive. Staring away from his host and refusing to engage in conversation? That’s ridiculous behavior.

Yes, kill the vampire before it reveals it’s secrets. This guy is still suspicious. The easiest way to avoid being seen as a suspect is to become a victim.
