Hyun Seo buried his mother and daughter in the ground on the same day. And then, she too died.
“I’m sorry, mom. I feel so sorry for you…”
He had no idea what was keeping him alive day by day. His only desire was to retaliate against his inlaws.
His mother, Hye Su, and his daughter, Seo Ha. The pictures of the two precious people were placed side by side, as loving as when they were alive.
“Mom. My daughter… is our Seo Ha doing well?”
The smiles of the two people in the picture were flawlessly bright.
Perhaps it was because they were no longer of this world. The image of the two of them smiling with no worldly worries was both vivid and incredibly distant.
“Baby, stay well with grandma until mom comes to see you. I’ll be there soon.”
As Hyun Seo caressed his daughter’s photo, he clenched his chest as if he were suffocating.
His lovely child, who would laugh with chubby cheeks whenever he kissed them. His daughter’s small body, soft and warm when held tightly in his arms.
He couldn’t accept the fact that he wouldn’t be able to see that smile again or hold her body again.
Without accepting that reality for even a single day, such days piled up, and a year passed.
“Mom, I’m… every day, I painfully realize the saying that when a child dies, they are buried in the parent’s heart.”
He still didn’t want to accept the fact that his daughter was no longer in this world.

“Please take good care of my daughter, your granddaughter, so she doesn’t have to suffer like she did here and can just receive love. I will trust only you until we meet again.”
With tears in his eyes, he muttered as if his mother were right in front of him.
“I will definitely take revenge, so please wait until then. I love you. I love you, mom. I love our baby.”
In the serene memorial park, he placed Hye Su and Seo Ha side by side in the spot that had been prepared for his father and where he had intended to place his mother, Hye Su.
The landscaping, whether it was for the deceased or the living, was showcasing the melancholy of the red autumn, falling lonely.
Among them, the flowers left by visitors mourning the deceased were sadly revealing their existence.
Hyun Seo slowly withdrew from the smiling faces of the two people.
It was time for him to go now.
He had to return to that house and live like a fool who knew nothing. As he had done until now, he had to spend another day with them.
“Brother, I’m here.”
“Hey, we haven’t had lunch yet. Can you make some refreshing clam kalguksu? Young Suk said she wanted to eat the clam kalguksu you made, so I brought her home.”
Motherinlaw Young Suk came in with Hye Mi from downstairs and raised her clear voice.
“We’re late for lunch, so she’s very hungry, hurry up.”
Hyun Seo, who wanted to say, ‘Then you should have called me in advance,’ just shut his mouth.
Behind the two women, Mr. Kim, the chauffeur, followed them in, carrying shopping bags full from the department store.

“Mr. Kim, mine is here. Mother’s is over there.”
Mr. Kim hurriedly divided the shopping bags as he was told. He was about to rush outside when he saw Hyun Seo, he awkwardly smiled and bowed his head.
“Mr. Kim, wait a moment.”
Hyun Seo quickly disappeared into the kitchen, and soon came out with a tray holding a glass of juice. He then offered the glass to Mr. Kim, who was about to leave.
“You’ve worked hard, have a glass of juice before you go.”
“Thank you, young lady.”
Mr. Kim glanced at the elder lady, Young Suk, then took the glass and drank it all at once. He must have been quite tired from running around.
“Hey, what are you doing not preparing food quickly when the second one is hungry? You always meddle in unnecessary things… oh dear.”
Young Suk usually didn’t like Hyun Seo taking care of the working people.
“He’s not alone now, it’s okay if his meal is late. You have to feed him well so he can have a strong son.”
“Mother, I’m okay. I was hungry before, but now time has passed….”
“That’s why I bought something delicious….”
Young Suk’s gaze gently shone towards Hye Mi and then turned fierce towards Hyun Seo.
“He wanted to eat the kalguksu you made, so we came home….”
“Mother, I’m sorry. I guess I made you upset by saying I wanted to eat the kalguksu made by my brother. It seems like he’s uncomfortable, we can go out and eat now.”
When Hye Mi began to squirm, Hyun Seo quickly raised both hands to stop her.
“No, Hye Mi. There are some clams that have been prepared, I can make it quickly. Please wait a bit.”
However, as soon as Hyun Seo turned his back towards the kitchen, he heard the two people whispering behind him.
“He’s really useless. He can’t do anything right.”
“I’m sorry for no reason. It seems like he doesn’t really want to do it today.”
They might have deliberately made the sound so that he could hear it, pretending not to know.
“I guess you’re saying that because you have a son.”
“No way. It’s not like I’m pregnant.”
“If he can’t even do this, what’s the point of him….”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
