The next day, Nellia and the others decided to explore the castle grounds to see if there were any other hidden spaces like the basement.

Thinking it would be better to split up, Nellia chose to search the western side of the castle with Jenuit, while the Duke would check the eastern side alone.

The Duke’s room had remained lit until late the previous night.

Though he often stayed up late, she guessed that yesterday’s confusion—about his true identity—had kept him from falling asleep easily.

After reading the book in the basement, the Duke had begun to suspect he might not even be human.

She had reassured him that his true nature didn’t matter to her, but she knew those few words wouldn’t instantly restore everything to how it used to be.

‘It is quite shocking…’

If the Duke’s ancestors might not have been human, then it stood to reason he might not be human either.

What surprised her even more, however, was how little she cared about that fact.

Was it because she liked the Duke…? When you liked someone, did you see only them completely? Or perhaps she’d already been through so much that she’d become numb to shocking revelations like this.

Thus, Nellia found herself more astonished by her own indifference to the Duke’s true nature than by the revelation itself.

But one thing was certain now: she had no intention of confessing her feelings to the Duke just yet. She planned to do so only after everything was resolved—after all the troubles plaguing him had vanished.

If she confessed now, the Duke would surely be happy—but he’d also feel urgency. He’d rush to find Zigrit’s Heart and become fully human as soon as possible.
