Deciding to close it on her way, she climbed the stairs—only to wrinkle her brow slightly at an inexplicable, musty odor drifting in the air.

‘What is this smell?’

Covering her nose lightly with the back of her hand, she glanced around once.

She could hear distant chatter—whether from the basement or outside the door—but no one appeared to be nearby. Using the moonlight streaming through the window as her guide, she slowly ascended the staircase.

“…Huh?”

The third floor was completely empty upon her arrival. Had they meant for her to wait a bit? Just as Emilia was about to lower the hand covering her nose, the smell intensified, making her frown again.
