Emilia simply blinked her eyes. She was flustered, unsure how to react—but his face, which had just broken into an oddly amused smile, strangely lingered in her mind.

“I suppose you could sell it, but I’d prefer you kept it. It’s a memento of sorts.”

“A memento? Ah, did someone give it to you as a keepsake? Then you should definitely take it back!”

“Not quite. Let’s just say it’s a memento of having found a new watch.”

What did that even mean? A new watch? Emilia pondered for a moment before parting her lips slightly.

‘Ah, so he means he bought another watch?’

Come to think of it, she didn’t always notice it, but whenever she had glimpsed his watch before, the design had always been different.

‘But then again… why not just say he bought a new one outright?’

She never understood why he had to speak in such roundabout ways. Was this the refined speech of the aristocracy, or simply his own peculiar manner of talking? Every time, she just wished he’d speak plainly and directly.

“There’s something else I’d like to ask you about. Should I give it to Counselor Fabio?”

“What is it?”

“Three letters were just found—they seem to contain some sort of discussion. I’d like to know who these three people are and where they live.”
