“Hmm… They already want to send the second prince off to a foreign country?”

Did my brother agree to that? Enrico faintly recalled the king, who since childhood had silently watched him with inscrutable eyes, and leisurely slipped his glove back on.

The king had occasionally betrayed a flicker of discomfort, but would quickly mask it again. The previous monarch and his queen, before their deaths, had supposedly shown consideration for the current king by granting their much younger son a distant territory far from the capital—yet who could have foreseen that oil would be discovered there of all places?

Bound by the late king’s oath, they couldn’t take the land back, and suddenly Enrico found himself holding one of the kingdom’s most valuable assets, causing the rift between him and the current king to widen further.

As he stepped out of the museum, a cold wind slightly tousled his hair. Enrico swept it back and descended the stairs.

“It’s none of my concern—handle the invitation yourself.”

“Understood.”

“How is Emilia doing?”

“She’s practicing diligently. She’s always spent more time in the rehearsal room than others, which is a bit worrying. Also, she seems disappointed about her role. Though she shows no outward signs regarding the casting-day incident, she’s occasionally been seen rehearsing the dance of the part she missed, alone.”

“Hmm… Let’s keep an eye on that. I’m rather curious now how much trouble that slippery eel might stir up.”

“Understood. Also, I’ve confirmed she briefly spoke with the Crown Prince early this morning.”

“…With the Crown Prince?”

“Yes. His Highness seemed quite pleased to see Miss Emilia.”

“Was it noted in the report that they knew each other?”

“Viscount Este visited Desiro eleven years ago regarding a patent matter, and Miss Emilia accompanied him then. We’ve verified they crossed paths with His Highness the Crown Prince about four times during that visit.”
