I had a strange dream.

While waiting for Eun Jae, I dozed off briefly in the car—and saw, on the tree in the Clover Garden where Eun Jae and I had gone before, peaches glowing with vivid, luscious color.

I seemed thoroughly entranced, as though bewitched by something.

Normally, I wouldn’t even go near peaches—but perhaps it was the dream that made me approach so casually, even pluck them myself and hold them tightly in my hands. In that moment, the peach suddenly grew enormous, shimmered golden, and nestled itself against my chest—an uncanny dream, indeed.

“Oh, it tickles.”

Though it was only a dream—though I hadn’t even touched or eaten it—my body inexplicably felt ticklish. Even after waking, Seon Woo furiously rubbed his forearm.

Stretching slightly, Seon Woo rested his arms folded atop the steering wheel and gazed blankly out the rain-speckled windshield.

Summer’s oppressive heat had already waned, and a gentle, autumn-announcing rain fell softly in the evening air.

This year, it had rained so much. So many things had happened—so many that it was hard to believe they all took place within a single year.

The greatest gain of this year was welcoming Eun Jae as my wife. No matter how I thought about it, it was the right decision. Then suddenly, Seon Woo found himself staring distantly at his own hand.

He now seemed certain—why her touch hadn’t unsettled him at all, and why it had to be Eun Jae.

That sensation, warmth, and scent when she tightly held my hand; her hand, stroking my head to soothe me. Perhaps it was precisely because her touch so closely resembled *his* that I found calm and healing in it.

In that moment, I even suspected—perhaps my father-in-law’s larger design was what truly led me to become a cardiothoracic surgeon.

Just as I, lost in such wandering thoughts, chuckled softly to myself, someone tapped lightly on the driver’s-side window.

The moment Seon Woo recognized the face beyond the glass, his lips curved gently. Her face, smiling beneath a violet umbrella, was dazzlingly beautiful.
