As soon as he pulled up the handbrake and turned off the engine, Seon Woo sat up and quickly exited the car, heading toward the underground storage room.

Seon Woo opened his tightly shut eyes, filled with earnest hope, and held a small card up to the door lock. With a heavy *click*, the lock disengaged and the door opened.

Originally, the underground storage had been built to house Grandfather’s book collection.

Cool, dimly lit, and maintaining steady humidity, the space was ideal for preserving old books in optimal condition.

Until Grandfather’s health declined, it had remained spotless—free of even a speck of dust.

Every morning he would enter to check on his books and read, only emerging in the late evening. Unlike those days, dust now swirled up with every footstep.

It wasn’t fully underground, apparently; light seeped in through the long ventilation grilles along the walls and ceiling, making artificial lighting unnecessary.

Seon Woo slowly approached the beautifully polished walnut bookshelf.

Around the time he’d taken the hospital elevator down to the underground parking lot, Tae Gyu had called. “Why the rush?” he’d asked. “Are you planning to inspect the entire storage room?”
