After attending the anniversary party, Narim cried alone in her room until her eyes were swollen.
“What exactly can I do to make it stop?”
“Well, one more time, hug me?”
“Otherwise, there’s no reason for a guy like me to follow you around, right?”
That gaze, that look coming towards me, was so painful that it was unbearable.
No, that’s not it. The reason I like you is not like that.
I can’t really explain why I like you. It’s just that my heart is drawn to you, my eyes are drawn to you. When I see you, my heart pounds. That’s why I couldn’t say it.
“If not, then what do you want from me? Is it your goal to marry the director’s grandson?”
It might look like that. It was self-inflicted. If I had told the truth from the beginning, our relationship wouldn’t have twisted like this.
Among the many nurses at Yeonrim Hospital, one of them, passing by like that, sometimes exchanging greetings and jokes, it was better when we could do that.

Don’t be greedy; if you were satisfied with that.
“You fool…”
These were already regrettable things. Narim buried her face in the pillow again and sobbed.
It must have been when she was very, very young.
A house with a beautiful garden full of big trees and fragrant flowers blooming in various colors.
Although her house also had a garden, things there looked different. They seemed to overflow with something more.
Dad was busy with work for the nation, and mom with her business. In the spacious house with a lot of free time, there was only me and the nanny. So every day was bustling, and the house smelled like people.
Director Yoon Seok-hee of Yeonrim Hospital was a long-time friend of Narim’s grandfather. So, Narim naturally visited their house often since she was a child.
The day when Narim held her parents’ hands and went to that house was the happiest day. It wasn’t because there was a beautiful garden or delicious food.
It was because there were two handsome older brothers.

Growing up as an only child and feeling lonely every day, Narim had many memories in that house.
Feeding fish in the pond or playing rock-paper-scissors while crossing a stepping stone. Then crying loudly after falling into the pond. Holding ice cream in both hands and laughing with chocolate cream all over her face and clothes.
Those were just some of the memories she laughed at.
The two brothers treated Narim like a real younger sister, and Narim obeyed them very well.
Among them, she especially liked the brown-haired brother who teased her. It was too young an age to have the emotion of liking someone.
But in the meantime, due to some circumstances, the visits stopped, and she thought she had forgotten him. However, when she entered middle school, she had the chance to meet him again.
The older brother she thought was her brother, Yoon Tae-gyu, turned out to be a friend of the same age.
Entering as the top student, he shone brightly, and he still had plenty of friends around him. Even among them, he stood out.
Emotions that she thought she had forgotten erupted like flames.
Whenever she passed him at school, her head naturally bowed, and her cheeks flushed with warmth. During lunchtime, she even secretly watched him playing soccer on the playground.
“Narim, do you happen to remember Taegyu? They say he also entered Double-O High School. Have you seen him before?”

“You might not remember, but when you used to visit the director’s house when you were little, you used to follow Taegyu around calling him ‘Oppa.'”
There was no way she wouldn’t remember. But she didn’t answer her mom’s question.
Back then, Narim, who was shy and introverted, spent three years just watching Taegyu graduate without ever confessing her feelings.
Just when she thought they were growing apart, she met him again after entering high school.
On a rainy day, in front of the school hill.
Narim thought it was destiny. A destiny that shouldn’t be missed.
Having belatedly showered, Sunwoo was in the process of changing his clothes.
Confirming that Eunjae’s gaze had shifted, Sunwoo smiled lightly and put on a white short-sleeved shirt.
Sunwoo, lying down with a pillow supporting his chest, saw Eunjae studying for exams at the desk in front of him.
Sunlight filled the room, bathing Eunjae. The sunlight in his hair shone brightly.

The cool breeze passed through the open window, brushing Narim’s hair behind her ears.
The tangled curls that had become tangled in the past few days flowed down. Perhaps annoyed by it, Eunjae, who had tucked her hair behind her ear, paused her pen movements and resumed them.
Morning sunshine, cool breeze, and Jieunjae.
Even the slightest gestures were captured slowly in her sight. Everything about that morning was perfect.
“Should I leave the hospital and just live looking at Eunjae?”
It was a somewhat sincere remark.
“What?”
“Just kidding.”
It was meant to be a joke, but he said it was because of Eunjae’s surprised eyes.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
