A man was crossing the main palace corridor.

On one side stood a parapet railing offering a sweeping view of vast fields and villages below, while the opposite side featured a stone wall lined with portraits of past emperors and empresses.

Whichever direction one looked, there was always something worth seeing.

Yet the man paid no attention to either the stone wall or the scenery beyond the parapet.

He strode forward as if blindfolded like a racehorse, eyes fixed solely ahead.

“Enjoy your surroundings; before you know it, you’ll have reached your final destination.”

…Such words meant absolutely nothing to him.

To him, the surroundings were nothing more than peripheral space crowded with people who were fortunate if they didn’t get in his way—nothing more, nothing less.

Looking back was even less worthwhile.

Though many women admired this coldly handsome man—rare in the empire for his silver hair and steel-gray eyes—from behind, he had never once turned around.

He was already too busy just living by looking forward; as for women—

Well, unless they met his standards of refinement and social standing, they simply weren’t worth glancing back at.
