“Sister, this really worked out well.”

Lilia found Liz, who had skipped dinner and locked herself in her room, staring blankly out the window.

Since entering this house, it was the first time Lilia had come to her quarters—and Liz had wondered what she might say. As expected, it was exactly this.

“You must not have met anyone else all this time because you were meant to meet someone like His Grace the Grand Duke.”

“…….”

“He truly is an impressive man. He looked so young and handsome I couldn’t believe he was forty. I’m so envious of you, Sister—you’ll marry such a man and become the next Empress.”

Her expression was far too innocent to be interpreted as sarcasm… yet that wasn’t reason enough for Liz to hold back a retort.

“Then why don’t you marry him yourself?”

Lilia’s smile faltered slightly.

“Oh, Sister, really. How could a bastard like me possibly marry someone so distinguished? People wouldn’t allow it. It might even cause a huge scandal.”

“And if no scandal broke out—would you do it?”

“Of course I……”

Lilia started to answer firmly, but then seemed to realize such a scenario might actually happen, and trailed off.

Liz wanted to end this conversation.
