Established to commemorate the day Arsen, the fifth king of the Luzencia Kingdom, subjugated over a dozen neighboring kingdoms and founded a grand empire, this year marked its 512th celebration.

What had originally begun as a modest banquet attended only by members of the imperial family and meritorious subjects had, over the course of more than five hundred iterations, grown increasingly extravagant—to the point of becoming nearly unmanageable.

“At this rate, if we hold just a few more festivals like this, we might really go bankrupt.”

Liz murmured softly as she looked down at the banquet hall from the inner terrace.

The sheer number of people was overwhelming. Recalling the first day, when she stood on the dais greeting nobles and foreign envoys, Liz remembered how utterly exhausted she’d become from endlessly returning their bows in that seemingly never-ending procession.

Even then, she’d thought the crowd enormous—but compared to the throng gathered now on this final day, that earlier gathering had been nothing.

Then again, it was only natural. After all, they’d deliberately postponed the ball—the highlight of the Founding Day Festival—until the very last day. Surely, many had arrived late solely for the sake of attending the ball.

Though Liz watched the royal treasury inch closer to ruin moment by moment, she showed neither annoyance nor worry. On the contrary, her expression was bright and carefree.

There had been no fire!

According to the original timeline, right at this very hour on the first day of the festival—during the welcoming ball—Codel 12th Avenue was supposed to have been engulfed in flames. But that fate had never come to pass.

“If it’s not too late yet, leave it to me. I’ll handle it thoroughly.”

It was all thanks to Rene, who had dealt with the matter splendidly—so well, in fact, that Liz felt almost guilty for having hesitated even for an instant.
