Liz’s change in attitude led to the end of Monica’s surveillance.

But Mirabel never became her person again.

She even tried negotiating with her mother to accept the marriage proposal under the condition that she not refuse it. It was because of Lilia.

“What should I do? I was just starting to get close to Mirabel.”

Lilia pleaded with a face full of regret.

“Mirabel seems like a really good person, Mother. She’s considerate and has an excellent sense in choosing clothes. I can see why my sister adored her. I’m sorry, but Mother, must you take Mirabel away from me? I beg you.”

Mother, blinking her eyes, finally gave in to Lilia’s earnest request.

Without Mirabel and not being fond of Monica,

Liz felt truly alone in this mansion. It was as if she had returned to being a lonely orphan girl from her past life. She once thought that having blood-related family was better than not having one, but now… she wasn’t sure.

Thanks to her mother and Lilia, rumors that she would become a duchess spread like wildfire, and it seemed her marriage was almost off the table.

No nobleman would accept a woman who had tried to marry another man and then broke off the engagement. Unless it was a place for an old widower.

“Just try getting divorced. I’ll leave this place right away…”

“What will you leave?”

Startled by the sudden voice, Liz lifted her gaze.

A pair of blue eyes belonging to Kain, who was standing two steps ahead and looking down at her, caught her eye.

He tilted his head to one side, as if awaiting her answer.

“Ah, it’s nothing.”

Before he could read her true feelings, Liz quickly deflected.

“Where are you going?”

He, who wore a dark suede jacket slung over his shoulders without putting his arms through the sleeves as usual, responded briefly.

“On an errand to the lumber merchant.”

“Ah, you have a lot of… ”

She was about to say ‘you have a lot of work,’ but then she remembered.

‘This is the lobby, right?’

Noticing that the newly-trained apprentice servants were walking towards her, Liz exaggeratedly displayed the dignity of a mistress.

“You… you’re doing a lot. Kain.”

It had been a while since she had spoken informally.

It felt strange.

As the young apprentice servants greeted and passed her by, Liz wished they could stay by her side forever… but that didn’t happen.

Speaking informally to the Crown Prince.

He probably wouldn’t kill her for just this, but it was enough to add to the list of wrongs he’d come to her room to sort out later.
But the voice that landed in my head was unexpectedly gentle.

“You look good together.”

Liz lifted her head.

“It sounds much more comfortable than using formal speech.”

He folded his arms, and his jacket sleeves remained rolled down.

“Shall we continue to use informal language from now on?”

“I… I prefer to use formal speech.”

Liz spoke in an anxious tone as she looked around. Then Kain chuckled and replied.

“It’s confusing to use informal speech when there are people and formal speech when there aren’t.”

“I wish the time would come quickly when I could use formal speech both when there are people and when there aren’t.”

She had impulsively conveyed her true feelings.

“Is that a way to say you want me to leave soon?”

Kain’s voice sounded a bit chilly, catching the implication.

As Liz hesitated to answer, he cut in.

“I was planning to do that anyway.”

“….”

Caught off guard by his response, Liz was bewildered. What had gotten into him, who had acted as if he would oppress her forever just a few days ago? Liz finally managed to part her lips that had refused to open.

“…When?”

That was the most important thing for now. More than why he was leaving…

“Soon.”

“Soon, when?”

He lifted the corners of his mouth and said,

“A secret.”

“….”

“So….”

Kain took a large step closer. Then he wrapped his hands around her shoulders and bent down.

“Take a good look at this face. You won’t be able to see it forever soon.”

Although the warmth of the hands on her shoulders and his gaze stayed on her up to the last precarious moment, Liz didn’t even realize it was precarious. It felt as if they were the only two in this vast mansion.

When another group of servants entered the living room, Kain had already taken two steps back as if nothing had happened.

He passed by her with an impeccable servant-like demeanor, politely bowing to Liz as he went.

“A face I won’t be able to see forever…”

Only the lingering sentiment from those words stayed by Liz’s side.

That was entirely her burden to embrace.

‘Do I still have lingering feelings for Kain?’

The reason Liz couldn’t avoid thinking this was because of memories from her past life.

Many experiences of farewells, among them a few memories that had given her a fairly strong sense of disappointment, seemed vaguely similar to the present situation.

A little, just a little more bitter, but it felt natural considering they had spent nearly half their lives together.

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
